‘Seussical’ theatrical show returns to Rockmart for holiday performance

- SJ Correspondent

Rockmart’s thespians are giving locals a second chance to think many thinks with a reboot of the group’s Summer musical “Seussical.”

With a similar cast and extra rehearsal time, the school is working hard to bring back The Cat in the Hat, The Whos, and Horton for a performance that promises to live up to the original.

The cast is already working again to perfect the colorful songs and dances the play requires, and doors open for public shows on Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. Student tickets are $5; adult tickets are $7.

Seussical Jr. Follows several classic Seuss characters as their conflicts intertwine with each other’s.

The story primarily follows Horton (played by Isaac Gober) who discovers a small flower with an even smaller village (the Whos) living on top of it. No one can hear the Whos except for Horton, and the protective elephant must defend his new friends against the naysayers and dangers of his world. Fortunately, through all of his dangers, Gertrude Mcfuzz (played by Anna Snider) helps Horton and maintains faith in her elephant companion.

Seussical won’t interfere with the school’s annual musical, and the group has plans to begin rehearsing Grease later in the year.

“Seussical doesn’t count as our musical this year,” thespian Ethan Gober said. “We’re still doing Grease, but the cast really enjoyed Seussical, and since we only did it during the Summer, they thought it would be a waste to not run it again.”

Some adjustments were required to make it work out, but with some work from new additions to the cast, everyone is just about ready to put on a big show.

“There were some cast changes, but all of the principals are the same aside f rom t he Sour Kangaroo who is being played by Hope,” thespian Alli Streetman said.

Additional thanks were given by performers to the City of Rockmart and the Rockmart Cultural Arts Center for helping to provide the theater for the upcoming show.

The cast and crew for the show is as follows:

Director and Assistant Directors: Margaret Jacobs, Paige Duff, and Stevi Reeves.

Alli Streetman as The Cat in the Hat Isaac Gober as Horton Anna Snider as Gertrude Mcfuzz Rob Laltrello as JoJo Chloe Green as Mayzie La Bird

Hope Garrett as Sour Kangaroo

Branson Lewis as Mr. Mayor

Technical Director/ Sounds: Rex Garner and Hailee Brand.
