Rome Symphony Orchestra will present ‘Magic of Christmas’ concert on Dec. 9

The Rome Symphony Orchestra will present traditiona­l Christmas selections along with other holiday classics in “Magic of Christmas” on Dec. 9.

The concert will feature Maestro Rolando Salazar and special guest artist Tiffany Uzoije as they lead audiences in a festive salute of the most wonderful time of the year.

Joining the RSO will be 75 young singers representi­ng the Rome High School Chorale, and the Armuchee Elementary School choir.

Concert goers will also be encouraged to sing along with the orchestra as they play the yuletide favorites which include a wide variety of music from sacred, to classical, to traditiona­l, featuring works by Berlioz, Handel, Tchaikovsk­y, Irving Berlin, and others.

This concert will introduce a new Christmas tradition for RSO, a candlelit procession led by the young singers performing “Silent Night.”

Soprano Tiffany Uzoije will be the guest vocalist for the concert. She has studied opera and vocal performanc­e at Belmont University and The Peabody Conservato­ry at Johns Hopkins University.

Maestro Rolando Salazar is the Assistant Conductor and the Interim Chorus Master for the Atlanta Opera. Drawing from fond Christmas memories of his own, Salazar wishes to create a reflective atmosphere for the audience to “marvel in awe of the true joy that the season brings.”

The evening is sponsored in part by support from RSO subscriber­s, the City of Rome, Synovus Bank, OTR, and t he Heyman Family Foun- dation. A portion of the concert proceeds will benefit the local chapter of the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy.

Advance t i ckets t o “Magic of Christmas” are $22 for adults, $12 for seniors, $7 for students ages 13-17 and $6 for children 12 and under. Atdoor tickets are $27 for adults, $ 17 for seniors, $10 for students ages 1317 and $6 for children 12 and under.

To add to your overall concert experience, on Dec. 7, at 5: 30 p. m., the symphony with be co- hosting “Concerts & Cocktails” at Off Broad in the Hawthorn Suites. The event is designed to enrich the concert experience by providing guests the chance to meet with performers and musicians before the concert.

The evening will feature live Christmas music and guest speakers Maestro Rolando Salazar and Soprano Tiffany Uzoije. Tickets for this event can be purchased at the door for $20 which also includes a compliment­ary cocktail.
