Parade honors state champs
A mass of red swooped down Broad Street on Saturday afternoon as the back- to- back state champion Rome Wolves football team was met by hundreds of cheering fans during a victory parade.
With a dominating 38-0 victory over Warner Robins Friday night — their 27th in a row, dating back to last season — the Wolves ingrained themselves in high school football history.
Queen’s ballad of champions sounded as the team rounded the bend at Broad and East Sixth Avenue.
Fans lined the sidewalks, yelling and rattling cowbells.
Once reaching West Third Avenue, the team headed toward the Town Green.
“The last Wolf Walk,” head coach John Reid shouted out to his players as they headed for the Chief John Ross Memorial Bridge.
“We had to go on the road and whip their tail,” Reid said, to cheers and applause. “We knew we had the backing to go out and play as hard as we could and best represent the city of Rome.”
