PREA celebrates the holidays

- From press release

Poinsettias adorned the tables of the last gathering of the 2017 year of the PREA (Polk Retired Educators Association), and was punctuated by the excited voices and seasonal dress of the attendees!

The Pledge of Allegiance was eagerly recited, followed by President Sorrells’ appreciation for the support throughout the year of the members, especially that which now involved the Shriners Hospital, which has placed the PREA well ahead in its monetary-pledged schedule. The group was also reminded of the Tallatoona Reading Program for Preschoolers, as well as keeping in touch with newly retired teachers in the area.

Those who may be interested in the Field Trip to the GREA Educators Museum on March 15 should call President Sorrells by Feb. 1! The cost is $15 for the chartered bus. Also, Toys for Tots is Dec. 19 to be held at the First Baptist Church in Rockmart from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Volunteers should contact the Police Department or call the Church.

Before the Invocation and delicious lunch, Lynda Rutland found, within a holiday card, “Christmas Miracles” which reminded us of how God intervenes in our lives that produces things that we would have never thought of ourselves.

PREA was fortunate to have Rhoda Heuer of ONE DOOR POLK, which performs as a multi-tenant social service hub, meeting the needs in healthcare, mental health and social services … all under one roof!

Please contact Ms. Heuer for more information. Those seeking volunteer opportunities, where some of our PREA members are already involved, are encouraged to visit. Tim Malone, on piano, and wife, Sharon Malone, PREA Treasurer, and both members of the Community Chorus, drew everyone into the closing for the year, by the singing of Christmas melodies.

The next meeting of the PREA will be Feb. 1 at Polk County College & Career Academy in Cedartown. Anyone interested in PREA activities is invited. Kindergarten supplies are requested for the month.
