Toys Express program giving back for holidays
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office annual tradition of making sure local youth in need still have a chance to celebrate Christmas is still ongoing, and deliveries will continue up through the weekend.
Sheriff Johnny Moats said donations from local residents and businesses have given back to help purchase toys and gifts for children of young and older for the Toys Express program.
“We’ve already purchased a lot of toys this year, and we’ll continue to deliver them out in the community through this coming week,” Moats said at his office, where toys are being collected and processed.
Donations and applications to receive toys are still being taken up, but those interested in getting help from the Sheriff’s office for Christmas need to apply fast.
Moats took an additional step to ensure kids keep their toys and aren’t returned by scratching out all the barcodes on items. Additionally, he was able to purchase children’s coats in bulk to give those out as well for the holidays, and got several bicycles donated too.
“We’re hoping that we can give eveyone Christmas to those who really need it,” Moats said.
Those wishing to give back can do so at anytirme by calling the office at 770-749-2900.
