Ups and downs for Cedartown teams in early season play

The Cedartown Bulldogs are keeping up with the early season so far after going 4-1 so far, and had their busiest week yet since their first game after Thanksgiving.
The good news: the only team to get the best of them this season has been Rockmart in an 8-point loss at home against their rivals. They took down Temple by 18 points on the road at the start of last week, dropped one to the Jackets the next night, then went back on the road and picked up 7-point wins over Coosa, and then their win over the weekend against Rockmart.
Challenges face the Bulldogs ahead though, with a week that includes a trip to an undefeated Villa Rica sitting at 8-0 including 4 region wins, then on Friday host a 4-4 Paulding County team who hasn’t won a region game yet.
The Bulldogs won’t get too much of a holiday break either. On the Wednesday following Christmas, they’ll be in the three-day Christmas tournament in Chattooga County, and then jump right into Region 5-4A play against Cartersville on Jan. 2.
The Lady Bulldogs are also working out some issues. They went into last week undefeated, then picked up a 30-point win over Temple and a big win in their first rivalry showdown at home 50-38 over Rockmart.
Where Cedartown’s girls have struggled since is on the road.
The Coosa girls’ basketball team held off late rallies from Cedartown last Friday and pulled away for a 55-37 win against the Lady Bulldogs.
Then they dropped their last game against Rockmart for the season in a 58-27 finish.
The Lady Bulldogs will have a chance to regroup this week, but it won’t be easy. They face an undefeated Villa Rica on Tuesday after press time, followed by a Friday matchup against a 0- 7 Lady Patriots team coming from Paulding County High School.
