Bulldog players score big in Elite Classic games
Also, the All-Region honors are announced for 5-AAAA.
Several Cedartown standouts took part in games this past week with others around the state wrapping up 2017 and capping off a big season.
Head coach Doyle Kelley praised the efforts of seniors Trevon Wofford and Cruz Rodriguez, and Sophomore Kobe Pryor as they took part in Georgia Elite Classic games last week at McEachern High School.
Pryor scored two touchdowns and was named MVP for the National Sophomores, netting 12 carries and 74 yards of offense for the team, and leading both in the rushing and all purpose yards category.
He was also on the winning side of the game, with his National squad of Georgia sophomores picking up a 38-35 win in the contest.
Wofford was 4-for-6 in passing with 34 yards and a touchdown in his game, also 55 yards on four carries in rushing offense and leading the seniors on the field.
It was the second time this season that Wofford and Rodriguez faced Cartersville senior quarterback Trevor Thomas on the other side of the field as well. Thomas lead the American squad of Georgia seniors to a 1714 win.
Cedartown also celebrated the inclusion of Wofford, Rodriguez and others in All-Region honors announced in past weeks.
Wofford was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Rodriguez Ironman Award ( TwoWay Player of the Year) for the region.
Tony Mathis was named to the top of the second team running backs list, and Joseph Gibbons was included on the second team for wide receivers.
Also given mentions were offensive lineman Will Pilgrim on the offensive line.
Gibbons was selected as a first team defensive lineman, Chadriq Neal was given an honorable mention on the linebackers list and TJ Martin and Zaquan Frazier both made the defensive backs list.
Mathis was also given the honor of the only member of the first team for kickoff and punt returns.
All the honors and extra play tells Kelley one thing about his team to come in 2018: there’s plenty of talent to show off in the fall.
“I’m glad that our young men are getting the recognition they deserve,” Kelley said. “All of these kids are real all- stars. We’ve got a bright future ahead of us in Cedartown football.”
