Local area youth get a happy holiday from DFCS.

A number of l ocal groups and people have reached out to help provide gifts to those who otherwise would have gone without during the holidays.

The Polk County Department of Family and Children Services have extended their thanks to several businesses, groups and individuals who helped give back to foster children during the Christmas season.

That includes Leroy Peugh of Cherokee Logistics, Inc. and Tommy Britt for their help transporting Christmas presents to 142 foster children in local DFCS custody.

WSB’s Clark Howard sponsors Christmas gifts annually for children across the state in foster care, but they have to be picked up in the Atlanta area. The two worked together to bring those gifts to the local DFCS office, where another pair of groups took over getting those gifts out locally.

Cedartown High School’s National Honors Society and Future Business Leaders of American helped with that work when the pair arrived at the office before the holidays.

Along with those gifts, community partners in Polk County sponsored 95 children locally to provide Christmas presents. That list included: Polk County Rotary Club, Rockmart Kiwanis Club, Day’s Pre-owned Super Center in Rockmart, Badcock Furniture in Cedartown, Integrity Realty, April Smith with Tanner Medical, The Hon Company, Polk County Sheriff ’s Office, and High Voltage Prints.

Additionally, the Cedartown High School Chick-fil-A Leader Academy students donated 52 bags for foster teens. The bags contained hygiene supplies, socks, underwear, school supplies, and candy. The bags were given out with the teens Christmas presents.

And also, the Department of Community Supervision (DCS) from the Tallapoosa circuit collected over 100 books to give to children served through DFCS during the holidays as well.

These efforts and more helped children across the area have a happy holiday, but DFCS asks for one more gift for those children in need: a happy and loving home.
