GHC basketball teams sweep Atlanta Metro

The Georgia Highlands men’s basketball team opened GCAA Conference play on the road at Atlanta Metro College and fought back from 18 points down to take a 8976 win.

The Chargers struggled offensivel­y in first half especially from the 3 point line going 2 for 12. Atlanta Metro went on a 14-2 run to extend their lead to 18 points, but GHC fought to close Atlanta Metro’s lead to 39-37.

GHC opened to second half with a 13- 0 run to help secure the victory.

“I am very proud of our resilience today, we got down by 18 points on the road, but we did not quit,” said GHC head coach Phil Gaffney. The Chargers were led by TaJuan Johnson with 24 points, DeMarcus Addie with 18 points, Khalyl Waters with 13 points, and Sandro Noel and Jeremiah Buford with 10 each points.

The Chargers (7-6, 1-0) will play again today at home against South Georgia Tech.

GHC women 66, Atlanta Metro 56

The Georgia Highlands women’s basketball team earned a 66-56 conference win against Atlanta Metro College on Saturday.

GHC had four players in double digits in scoring led by Dorian Sharpe with 16 points, Briana Davis with 15, Anna Stewart with 12 points and nine boards, and Kateryna Khomenko with 11 points and 12 boards.

“We really struggled with effort and energy in the first half,” said Lady Charger head coach Brandan Harrell. “We came out and played much better in the second half. We had great efforts from three of our sophomores — Brianna Davis, Anna Stewart, and Kateryna Khomenko. ”

The Lady Chargers (9-9, 5-2) with play again today at home at against South Georgia Tech.
