Stand Up 4 Hope comedy benefit show coming up for end of month

Hearty laughs and good times are promised to those who attend Kay Dodd Comedy’s “Stand Up 4 Hope” comedy night on Friday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m.

The upcoming benefit is being held at Victory Baptist Church, located at 15 Hendrix Road, where comedians Kay Dodd, Lisa Mills, and Sandi Joy will provide the entertainm­ent for the night in a bid to help raise money for domestic violence victims.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Cedartown’s Quality Inn at 925 N. Main St., Cedartown’s Our House Thrift Store at 504 S. Main St., Mary Miller’s State Farm Insurance office at 1340 Chattahooc­hee Dr, Rockmart, or from Stacey Smith at Rockmart’s city hall at 136 N Piedmont Ave. More informatio­n is available by calling 770748-2300.

All proceeds benefit the local domestic violence shelter. Our House, Polk Co Women’s Shelter, a local non-profit that has provided 20 years of shelter and services to victims of domestic violence.

“It’s put towards the support of the shelter,” Our House Director Conni Purser said. “Food, utilities, general operating expenses.”

Here’s a rundown of the night’s entertainm­ent: Kay Dodd’s more than twenty years in the com- edy business gives her an edge that promises to leave audiences rolling in the aisles. The comedian specialize­s in always squeaky clean, quick-witted, and perfectly timed humor. Kay is known as a funny, inspiratio­nal, speaker who shares her experience, strength, and hope through her jokes. Audiences are promised to spend the night laughing and being incredibly inspired by Kay’s journey.

Lisa Mills is an awardwinni­ng comedian, motivation­al speaker, actor, and author. Her fan-loved funny, laser sharp wit has been featured on several networks such as NOW, Impact, Netflix, the Dove Channel, and iHeart Radio. Lisa’s blend of slightly skewed, southern-spun humor promises to appeal to a variety of audiences. Convinced that there are more aspects of life that unite us than separate us, she hopes to bring all types of people together through laughter.

Sandi Joy is the 2013 North American winner of Walmart’s Talent Search and the 2015 Trailblaze­r Award recipient from the National Gospel Comedy Associatio­n who has been featured with Chonda Pierce and others on the Dove channel. Sandi fans enjoy her clean, high-energy observatio­nal comedy that combines a blend of stand-up comedy, storytelli­ng, and audience interactio­n. Sandi’s unique style always intends creates an atmosphere of unity that embraces what we all have in common. She has a heart for women from all walks of life.
