Committees get to work

- From staff reports

A total of six different committees gathered last week ahead of the Polk County Commission meetings for this month held after press time on Monday and Tuesday, and one thing is clear: the board is going to be busy for some time.

The technology committee will be looking to better define what role it will be taking as Commissioner Jose Iglesias reports that the newly- formed group will be tackling a variety of issues (see online this week) while Public Safety committee members are being sought for help for a new Rescue Vehicle for the Rockmart Fire Department, and much more (see page A5 for more.)

Issues over changes in the county retirement system have former employees looking for help from the board in the finance committee (see page A8) while on the personnel committee, chair Hal Floyd seeks to de- fine the public’s perception of the county, and the view of employees (see page A7.)

There’s also the reestablished Bids committee as part of the mix as well, and a whole slew of issues that were set to come before the county during work and regular sessions on Monday and Tuesday.

Items on the agenda included brief presentations from each committee, several delegations coming to discuss road issues, the county police and the Grady Road Landfill, reports from departments and a presentation of the 2017 audit, and much more. (See Monday’s story online for a full rundown of agenda items.)

All of this and much more were issues that we’ll be covering both here in print and online this week, along with the pair of county commission meetings. For those who get the paper on Tuesdays, join the board at the Commission meeting room at the Polk County Police Department in Cedartown at 7 p.m.
