NJHS inducting new members

Students of Cedartown Middle School will soon be recognized for their academic achievemen­ts in a special installati­on ceremony being held this week.

Students at Cedartown Middle School will be celebratin­g on Thursday night as they are inducted into a special organizati­on that honors their academic achievemen­ts.

The National Junior Honors Society (NJHS) will be installing dozens of new members to the group during a ceremony on Thursday starting at 6 p.m., and friends and family from the community are invited to take part.

NJHS members take qualify to join if they go a full semester with a letter grade of A in each subject and no behavior complaints on their records, and have to maintain the A average in all subjects in order to remain a member.

They also have to complete service projects based, like the school’s Chick- fil- A calendar sale, classroom supplies drive, a Christmas toy donation drive, Christmas Caroling at local Nursing Homes, Teacher Appreciati­on Week Teacher Gifts, and hosting the CMS Valentine Dance.

Students are rewarded for participat­ion and keeping up their grades is an out-of-state trip with or without their parents as chaperones (several still go with the group, as with all field trips.)

This year, the group is planning a trip to New York, and rotate year to year between there and Washington, D.C., and a third random choice within the United States like Philadelph­ia, Boston or Chicago, as examples.

The round of inductees who are being celebrated on Thursday night include, from 8th grade Gracie Ball, Ken Lyrica Davis, Brandon Guzman, Ronaysia Moseley, Jacy Tynall and Keyni Villigran.

7th graders being inducted are Sam Arnold, Amber Barber, Alan Barrera, Brisa Cruz, Maddison East, Mackenzie Edwards, Andrew Garcia, Evelyn Gonzalez, Abbey Howard, Lily Jackson, Hermene Juarez, Yahir Martinez, Chase Miller, Kadince Oxenreider, Kamron Palacios, Desli Perez, Yessica Perez, Viviana Rodriguez, Grace Shofstahl, Alexus Spurgeon, Alex Vasquez, Chance White, Jaida Williams-Wells and Andrea Young.

Sixth graders being allowed to join the group include Hanna Grace Ashmore, Emily Barker, Brodie Blackmon, Kimber Braren, Nic Butler, Logan Cauthen, Peyton Clay, Michelle Cornejo, Olivia Crenshaw, Avari Davis, Cole Dingler, Esmeralda Escalante, Michael Esquival, Christian Escutia, Peyton Frady, Irene Gomez, Aleigha Gonzalez, Jayden Grier, Spencer Hicks, Zeb Hodgins, Caitlyn Hulsey, Ayden Jiminez, Nadine Johnson, John Alvin Kelley, Brady Kirsch, Angela Lackey, Logan Little, Paris Martinez, Garrett Mathis, Drew McClain, Blanche McCluskey, Andrew McDonald, Campbell McKelvey, Kate Montemayor­k, Gabi Mosley, Damon Oliver, Anna Beth O’Neal, Kendall Pace, Hannah Padgett, Kimberly Perez, Milford Perez, Journey Pollard, Evan Prater, Keny Ramirez, Christine Robinson, Jean Carlo Rodriguez, Jayden Sanders, Maritza Segura, Pedro Vasquez, Grady Vicente, Deunti Williams and Jaly Womack

The club advisor is Gay Popham, 6th Grade Math teacher. m and club sponsors are Laura Cox (CMS Media Specialist), Julie Robinson (Gifted Math teacher), and John Sheffield (6th Grade Math teacher, Girls’ Volleyball and Boys’ Basketball Coach).
