Spend ‘An Afternoon with Authors’

The Ferst Foundation is holding their upcoming 4th annual “An Afternoon with Authors” fundraiser before month’s end to help raise money for their mission to help childhood literacy in Polk County.

A trio of authors will be on hand to talk about and read from their books for the Sunday, Feb. 25 event at In the Woods at 2173 Cartersville Hwy., Rockmart starting at 2 p.m.

The Ferst Foundation is featuring authors Rosalind Bund, Deborah Malone and Bryan Powell during their annual event, which also includes a silent auction of books autographed by “your favorite authors” as well of cakes.

Each author at this year’s event bring with them writings from children’s books and Christian fiction for the 2018 event.

Bund, a teacher at Eastside Elementary School, is also author of “Thunder & a Lightning Bug named Lou,” illustrated by Angela Hawkins. The book was released in 2016. Her newest title completed in collaboration with her daughter Maggie will be launched at FoxTale Book Shoppe in Atlanta.

Malone, a Christian fiction writer, she has released several works since changing from a career in Human Services. Her first novel “Death in Dahlonega” was a finalist for the American Christian Fiction Writer’s Category Five writing contest, and she was also nominated as a Georgia Author of the Year in 2012 and 2013. Her writings have also appeared in “Georgia Backroads” since 2001, and also in “Christian Communicator” and “Southern Women’s Magazine.”

She is a member of the Georgia Writers Association, Advanced Writers and Speakers Association and the American Christian Fiction Writers.

Also joining the afternoon is Powell, a Dallas writer who specializes in Christian Fantasy. His novels have been published by Tate Publishing, Lightening Source, Create Space, Kindle Direct Publishing and Vabella Publishing, and his latest novel “The Last Magi” won the Christian Redemption Award. His work has also appeared in “North Georgia Writer” and “Relief Notes,” along with “Georgia Backroads” magazine.

He’s a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers, The Christ i an Author’s Guild, where he served as president during 2016, and the Paulding County Writers Guild, the local chapter of ACFW, the New Life Writers Group.

Donations are also greatly appreciated by the Ferst Foundation, which will be used to provide books to area pre-school children preparing them for reading and learning success.

This year’s event is being dedicated to Sherry Howe, a founding member of the Community Action Team.
