Bulldogs’ season cut short at region tourney

Both boys’ and girls’ teams finish with 12-12 records.

Cedartown’s basketball programs finished their seasons with even records following trips to LaGrange for the 2018 region tournaments.

Both Cedartown teams finished the season at 12-12 (6-6 5-AAAA) after playing a single game each last week in the region tournament and wrapped up their time on the court in fifth place spots.

The Lady Bulldogs played first last Tuesday in a hard fought game against Central Carroll, and took the contest to overtime to fall by a field goal to the Lady Lions 5451.

The loss pushed Cedartown out of contention for a state playoff spot for 2018.

Cedartown’s boys also fell in their lone region tournament game on the road last Wednesday.

Troup County played host to the Bulldogs in a 46-32 loss on the road to wrap up their season as well.

They also finished the region in fifth place, missing the playoffs this year.

As both teams wrapped up their season, they can look back at some success for the year.

As well as starting off the season with a 5- 2 record going into the holidays, the boys team went 1-1 against Rockmart this year, then rounded out the region even before they finished in the tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs also went 1-1 against their crosscounty rivals this season, beginning the year with a 4- game winning streak ahead of the holiday break and went 6- 6 through region play.

Cedartown’s girls also had several close games this year, going down to the wire in six different games this year and picking up a win or loss by three points or less in all of those contests.

The Lady Bulldogs additionally say goodbye to two senior leaders this year, as Kenzavia Neal and Destiny Whatley both move on to graduate in May. Cedartown’s boys will also be saying goodbye to two of their leaders, Trevon Wofford and T.J. Martin.
