State wrestling wraps up over the weekend in Macon.

Hunter Safety Courses are coming back to the J.L. Lester Wildlife Management Area in March. Pre-register at gohuntgeor­gia. com for the March 13 and 15 classes from 6 to 10 p.m. on Antioch Road.

State Traditiona­ls over this past weekend marked the close of the wrestling season for Polk County’s pair of teams return from Macon with heads held high, but without championsh­ip gold.

Though, it wasn’t without trying.

Rockmart’s Truett Bowman took a first round win in the Class AA 138 pound division over Cory Braddy of Vidalia, then got a second round win over Rico Ashley of Fitzgerald to make it all the way to the championsh­ip match against Gabriel Peryam to fall just short of being state champion. Bowman came home with second place in the weight class.

Also finishing with a second place in the state i s 152- pounder Zoryan Hendricks, who won over Joseph O`Dell in the first round and Christian Grauberger before coming up against Josh Engstrom of Social Circle, who took the state title.

One more second place finsih came for Griffin Pace, who defeated Francisco Delamora in the first round and then Demetrius Owens in the second round before he came up against Douglas Peppers, who took the state title.

Rockmart’s Deacon Allen made it to a second round finish, beating Jaden Wheeler in the first round before falling to Luis Medina.

The Jackets weren’t the only ones at state over the weekend.

Cedartown’s Tanner Mason got to grapple in three rounds of the State Traditiona­l, falling in his first match to Jared Blackburn, who was the eventual runner-up in Class AAAA’s 120 pound weight class. Mason got a win over Jonathon Casarez in his second match to move on, but then fell to Lucas Lopez in a third.

Thomas Zenga, wrestling in the 126- pound weight class, also got in three matches at state, falling to Gavin Cunningham in the first match, then picking up a win over Pierce Simmons before falling again and being knocked out of the tournament by Trevor Upchurch. Wrestling in the 138- pound weight class, Chris Davis also had the same luck as his teammates, falling in the first round to Matt Jenkins, then grabbing a win in his second match over Arturo Jackson, before finally being knocked out Alex Repetun.
