WELSHFest is coming to Rockmart.

-

WELSHfest Heritage Days planning is already back up and running continuing the area’s tradition of providing financial support for The Rockmart History Museum and restoration and preservation of present day Van Wert Church in Rockmart. Broken down into teams of workers, success is already clearly apparent buzzing with overwhelming encouragement and achievements preparing for this yearly event, coming up on Saturday, March 17.

Without the festival and community support, the Museum would be lacking in up to date tools, the progress to preserve and restore this structure, its area’s rich Welsh history and beginning chapters of all the county churches we worship in today would be lost.

This year’s team of volunteers includes Brenda and Jim Carroll, Nancy Feek, Ashley Gauden, Greg Gray, Jeff Holstein, Diane Hughes, Jeri Purdy, Pat Sampson Diane Simpson, John and Linda Sprayberry, Robin Thackston, Savannah Wall, and Ann Wheeler.

The even will include 58 vendors participating and will be held in the downtown Rockmart area. Food services included in the lineup are Timbo’s Smokehouse, Georgia Concession Lady, Sweet Tooth Creations, Susan Davis’ pork rinds, boiled peanuts, cotton candy, our local vendors of the Farmer’s Market, Girl Scouts Cookies, Lion’s Club with Funnel Cakes, Nana’s Cooking with Fish and Chips, Desserts and Fried Chicken.

The annual event seeks to celebrate Welsh heritage in Rockmart, where the first settlers built the earliest log structure in 1846 on the north side of the present day cemetery at Van Wert Church in what was then Paulding County, now Polk County.
