New coffee bar soon coming to Cedartown

- By Kevin Myrick SJ Editor

Cedartown will soon have another coffee spot for local residents to enjoy as a man of many duties looks to add another to his daily list.

Local business owner and Commissioner Jordan Hubbard announced on Facebook on Friday that he is planning to open a new operations that will cater to those who want a good cup of coffee and a treat while they are working and hanging out. He’ll be calling the new business The Hub, to be located at 512 Main St. in downtown Cedartown.

The full scale coffee bar is an expansion of an idea Hubbard had to provide some sit down services for fans of Ideal Bakery but with an expanded amount of space and delicious delicacies to be featured on the menu. The Hub will also feature a lot of specialty drinks inspired by the former Moore’s soda fountain not far down the block.

“I’ve been wanting to bring something that features coffee downtown for a while,” Hubbard said. “It (The Hub) is still a part of Ideal Bakery since we’ll be featuring a lot of what we have at the bakery there for people to enjoy. The only problem with Ideal Bakery is that the location is great, but it isn’t ideal to hang out and spend a lot of time.”

Hubbard, who also serves as a teacher on weekdays for a dual enrollment history course, said the idea started with a joke from one of his students to have a place to hang out or study. However as that idea germinated into a seed, he decided Friday to pull the trigger and announce that he’s moving forward.

Equipment for the coffee bar is on order and set to arrive in a few weeks, Hubbard said. He added that he looked to open sometime in March, with a schedule that will include mornings and nights from Tuesday through Sunday.

His hopes are to potentially add a drive-thru window in the back of the building, or if the business takes off to potentially expand by moving to the old hardware store on the back alley he purchased in 2017. He said that will be based on whether or not The Hub takes off.

Additionally, Hubbard said there have been a variety of ideas floated for how he might use the old hardware store, along with potential for renters.

Hubbard is hoping his new venture will become a spoke in the wheel of J. Hubbard Enterprises, his overall business that includes Ideal Bakery, Studio Fit, rentals of commercial and residential properties around the area, a printing business and also rentals of photo booths as well. Hubbard has also taught tennis, serves currently as the Cedartown commission’s chair, and also has served as the GMA’s district president.

An announcement for a grand opening and more is expected in the weeks to come.
