Busy week of committee work ahead for county
Polk County Commissioners have a busy week ahead of them as several committee meetings are set to start on Tuesday after press time, following a retreat meeting over the county’s finances on Monday.
Commissioners began the work this week with a finance committee meeting set for 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with Sandra Galloway returning to discuss retiree insurance benefits, and old business over the Proposed 80 rule, retirement for constitutional officers and options for current retiree health insurance, and employee salary evaluations.
New business will include opening discussions over the 2020 Special Purpose, Local Option Sales Tax renewal, and the latest finance report.
The Ordinance Review Committee is set to gather following that at 4 p.m., when Commissioner Jose Iglesias is set to call the meeting to order to discuss upcoming ordinance amendments and hear a report on information technology. Following that at 5:30 p.m., Iglesias will call the new Technology committee to order to continue a discussion over the county website, hear about technology issues within the tax commissioner’s office, and then are set to adjourn following comments.
Today, commissioners Tillery and Marshelle Thaxton will hear bids for the courthouse camera project, provide comments and are set to adjourn following a 9:30 a.m. start. A personnel committee is set for later in the day at 4 p.m. to hear more on the Mercer Group’s study proposal for county employee job duties and descriptions and analysis of pay.
Wrapping up the busy week on Thursday, Commissioners have a 4 p.m. meeting set for the Public Safety committee.
They’re set to hear from Ed Graves as a delegate to discuss large trucks that are speeding and aggressive driving overall, and will bring back up funding for a new rescue vehicle for the Rockmart Fire Department, honors proposed for Det. Kristen Hearne, using federal surplus, engaging in after action reports on major events and establishing a mobile command center for the EMA for the county.
Commissioners and county officials will also discuss the possibility of holding active shooter training sessions as well.
The final committee meeting to wrap up the week will follow on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. when the Public Works committee gathers. They’ll be set to discuss previous items on subdivision speed control, brush grinding and the 911 operations center sidewalk project, while also discussing Cherokee Road improvements and hearing reports from the department.
All the meetings are set to be held in the administration conference room at the Polk County Administrative offices in downtown Cedartown on 144 West Ave.
