Baseball teams back in business, Sports

Here’s the good news for Cedartown Bulldogs fans: the team is so far doing pretty good early on in the 2018 season.

Now at 4-2, the Bulldogs went 3-1 over a busy week in a trio of home games and one on the road.

The team is still shaking out some rust early on, taking an 11- 5 win over Haralson County to kick off the week in a big offensive game, followed on by another 8-3 win over Chattooga County as well.

Where they stumbled was a 4-3 loss to Bremen in a ninth inning finish.

The Bulldogs were tied in the third with the Blue Devils 2-2, then added a run in the fifth to take the lead.

Bremen was able to add a sixth inning run to tie the game, and grabbed a final run in the ninth.

Both teams put up 13 hits and a single error each in the game.

Cedartown wrapped up the week on the road at Coosa in a 14-4 win in five innings over the Eagles on the road.

Head coach Doyle Kelley said his team would be 5-0 if not for the close loss to Bremen and ear- lier on against Chattooga on Feb. 15 in 1-0 inning in the tenth.

“We should be 5-0, but we’re young and growing,” Kelley said. “Everything is leading up to the region.

“I want to win all the games, but I really want to win those region games so we can get to the playoffs.”

Meanwhile the big game of the week is against the Jackets, as the two teams battle for dominance of the county’s baseball diamonds.

“It’s always fun to play Rockmart, and Coach Y (Kenny Yanzetich) has a great team over there,” Kelley said. “Its going to be a battle, it always is, it doesn’t matter. Throw the records out and all of that, because it doesn’t matter when it comes to Rockmart.”

Other games this week include a Thursday matchup at home against Model after the road trip after press time, then Saturday matchups against Walton and Calhoun.
