Mr. Davis

Mr. James Robert Davis Sr., age 78, of Cedartown, Georgia passed away on Friday morning, March 2, 2018 at his home with his loving family at his bedside.

Mr. Davis was born on Dec. 3, 1939 in Haralson County the son of Mr. Rice Eason Davis and Mrs. Myrteel Timms Davis.

He was a United States Veteran and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 until 1961. He then served with the Army National Guard for a number of years.

Mr. Davis worked for Georgia Craft Company for many years and later he went to work for EastWest Express as a Truck Driver. He retired following twenty years of dedicated service.

He was a member of the Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church and had been attending Westside Baptist Church in Felton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Charles Dewight Davis, his sister and brother in law, Evelyn and Son Timms.

Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Mary Wilkes Davis; sons and daughters in law, Jay Davis and Sherri and Johnathan Davis and Liane; daughters, Yvonne Wade and George and Sonya Bollen and James; sister, Annie Richards and grandchild­ren, Shannon Turner and Clay, Adam Wade and Becky, Aimee Smith and Steven, Candace McAfee and Mitch, Aaron Wade and Autumn, Cortney Davis, D J Davis, Sarah Bollen, Rebekah Bollen, Matthew Bollen, Bradley Woods and Vicortia and Marilyn Woods and fourteen great-grandchild­ren. A number of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. James Robert Davis Sr. were conducted on Sunday afternoon, March 4, 2018 at 2 p. m. in the Westside Baptist Church in Felton with the Rev. Joey Meeks, the Rev. Jeff Hulsey and the Rev. Todd Brown officiatin­g.

Interment followed in the family lot of the Lee’s Chapel Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the BrewsterCl­eveland Post 86 Honor Guard.

The family received friends at the residence on Lee’s Chapel Road, Cedartown over t he weekend before services on Sunday afternoon, March 4.

The following served as pallbearer­s: Jay Davis, Johnathan Davis, Adam Wade, D. J. Davis, Clay Turner, Steven Smith and Mitch McAfee. Mr. Davis’ nephews were asked to serve as honorary pallbearer­s.

Mr. Thomas

Mr. J. W. Thomas, age 74, of Rockmart passed away suddenly Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018.

He was born in Rockmart on Oct. 13, 1943, a son of the late Lenard Thomas and the late Eula Gladys Elliott Thomas.

Mr. Thomas lived all of his life in Rockmart where he was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was currently attending New Prospect Baptist Church.

He was a retired employee of the Suhner Manufactur­ing Company of Rome. Mr. Thomas enjoyed the outdoors including hunting, yard work and gardening.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, JoAnn Thomas of Rockmart to whom he was married on Aug. 15, 1964; son, Doug Thomas and his wife Laurie, Rockmart; daughter, Beth Schroeder and her husband Peter, Athens; three grandchild­ren: Philip, Natalie and Daniel Schroeder; two brothers: Dennis Thomas and his wife Patti, Rockmart and Frederick Thomas and his wife Susanne, Villa Rica; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Purser and Rev. Dr. Larry Davis officiatin­g.

Interment followed in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearer­s included the following gentlemen: David Jackson, Jody Watson, Robby Camp, Peter Schroeder, Glen Robinson, Freeman Stringer, J. C. Thomas and Allen Wilson.

The Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangemen­ts for the funeral of Mr. J. W. Thomas.

Mr. Lee

Mr. Michael Jeremy Lee, age 41 of Cedartown, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018.

He was born on Aug. 6, 1976 in Marietta.

Mr. Lee is survived by his father, Bill Lee; mother and step-father, Yvonne Duncan Cleveland and Gene Cleveland; son, Cason Lee; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Kontessa Lee and nephew, Austin Lee.

The funeral arrangemen­ts for Mr. Michael Jeremy Lee were held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Harrell officiatin­g.

Interment followed in the Pine Bower Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family of Mr. Lee received f amily and f riends on Saturday, March 3, 2018 prior to the funeral hour at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearer­s: Kelvin Bentley, Chad Garner, Neil Corn, Michael Sanford, Heath Owens and Brian “Bubba” Summervill­e.

Mrs. Paulk

Mrs. Dorothy Brittain Hindmon Paulk, age 86 of the Fish Creek Community, Cedartown, passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2018.

Mrs. Paulk was born Oct. 20, 1931 in Aragon, daughter of the late Ruby Hindmon Brittain and the late Otis Brittain.

She was also preceded in death by an aunt and uncle by whom she was raised, Mary and Bill Swift.

Mrs. Paulk had been a member of the Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church since 1970. She retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1984 with 26 years of service and enjoyed being a greeter at the Cedartown Walmart for 8 years.

She also enjoyed her family and loved to cook.

Mrs. Paulk was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert H. Hindmon in 1966 and Rev. John Mack (Moe) Paulk in 2013; and son, Ronald H. Hindmon in 1988.

Survivors included a son, Larry W. Hindmon and his wife Louise of Fort Gaines; two sisters, Lois Lee and her husband Billy and Betty Purser all of Rockmart; brother, Rev. Billy Swift and his wife Shirley of Rockmart; three grandchild­ren, Gwen ( Chris) Tant, Reva Moreno and Brittney Hindmon; and four great- grandchild­ren, Gabe Tant, Wyatt Tant, Jayden Negrette and Liam Dunwoody.

Funeral services for Mrs. Paulk were held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Swift and Rev. Mark Purser officiatin­g.

Interment services followed in the family lot of Aragon Cemetery.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearer­s: Butch Thompson, Doug Singleton, Darrell Lee, Ashton Hughes, David Purser, William Purser, Ed Burnley and Jeff Swift.

Mr. Hamby

Mr. Marvin L. Hamby, age 65 of Aragon passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018.

Mr. Hamby was born July 3, 1952 in Marietta, son of Marcelle Moulder Hamby and the late Mack Hamby, Jr.

He was a 1970 graduate of Sprayberry High School and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Hamby retired from the automotive service industry and enjoyed fishing and NASCAR, his favorite being Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He loved life and had a great desire to make people laugh.

Survivors included two daughters, Elicia Morris and her husband Tim of Cedartown and Stephanie Hamby of Rockmart; son, Justin Hamby and his wife Brittany of Marietta; mother, Marcelle Hamby of Acworth; special friend, Jenalda Thornton; five sisters, Brenda Carlile of Acworth, Linda Clute of Austell, Diane Cook of Marietta, Sandra Mildner of Cleveland and Cynthia Eubanks of Cumming; brother, Ronnie Hamby of Glenwood; ten grandchild­ren, Madison Hamby, Alex Hamby, McKinley Hamby, Megan Hamby, Greg and Macy Edwards, Sara and Justin Carter, Emiley Edwards, Cody Scoggins, Allyn Lyle and Andrew Hamby; four greatgrand­children and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Hamby were held on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Bellview Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Carter officiatin­g and a eulogy was given by Mrs. Sara Carter.

Interment services followed in the family lot of Sandy Plains Baptist Church Cemetery of Marietta with a eulogy given by Mr. Justin Hamby.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearer­s: Justin Hamby, Greg Edwards, Randy Joe Hamby, Andrew Hamby, Allen Lyle and Seth Mulkey.

Mrs. Brown

Mrs. Cynthia Lucille Cody Brown, age 65 of Cedartown passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2018.

Mrs. Brown was born July 20, 1952 in Atlanta, daughter of the late Allen Lee Cody, Sr. and the late Marie Gazaway Cody.

She was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Brown enjoyed sewing and crocheting and spending time with her family talking about the good old days.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Lamar Brown Jr.; and brother, Lee Cody.

Survivors included her son, Jonathon Brown of Austin, Texas; daughter, Tammy Brown and Rodney Green of Cedartown; brother, David Cody and his wife Sissy of Cartersvil­le; three sisters, Cheryl Johnson and her husband Jimmy of Ala., Bonnie Dozier and her husband Bill of Clear, Ala., and Karen Elizabeth Cody of Texas; and one grandson, Rodney Brown and his wife Kayla.

Memorial services for Mrs. Brown were held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Dee Green officiatin­g.

Mrs. Darnell

Mrs. Sallie Anne Dudley Darnell, age 62, of Cedartown passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2018.

She was born on Dec. 20, 1955 in Shelby, N.C., to the late John “Tupp” Dudley III and Marjorie “Anne” Jewell Dudley.

Mrs. Darnell and her late husband Dick had moved to Cummings, and upon his death she moved to Athens and back to her roots here in Cedartown. She was a very talented and creative “individual” always loving and generous to everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tupp and Anne Dudley and her husband Richard Darnell.

Mrs. Darnell is survived by her sisters and brothers in law, Lynne and Hugh Maddux and Laurie and Kemp Jones; brother and sister in law, Bill and Debbie Dudley; niece, Kelly Hines; nephew, Lewis Jones; uncle, Dr. Richard Jewell and her aunt, Angel Teer. A host of cousins also survive.

The service to celebrate the life of Sallie will be held Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018 at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of Ced- artown First United Methodist Church of Cedartown with Mr. Mike Macomson delivering the eulogy and Rev. Mike Broome officiatin­g.

The family received friends in the church parlor prior to the funeral hour..

Mr. Christophe­r

Mr. Cales Timothy Christophe­r, age 31, of Rockmart, transition­ed on Feb. 23, 2018.

Services for Mr. Cales Timothy Christophe­r were held on Thursday, March 1, 2018, 1 p.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church in Silver Creek.

Interment followed at the Polk Memory Gardens in Cedartown.

A wake was held on Wednesday evening, Feb. 28, 2018 at Wright Memorial Mortuary Chapel in Rome.

Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Wright Memorial Mortuary in Rome.

Mr. Atkins

Mr. Guy C. Atkins, age 71, of Rockmart passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 at his home after a long battle with PSP.

Mr. Atkins was born March 7, 1946 in Polk County, the son of the late Wesley Atkins and the late Lucille Hannah Atkins.

He was a graduate of Rockmart High School Class of 1964 and received his Bachelor of Science in Business in 1968 from Shorter College.

In 1970, Mr. Atkins and his business partner, Bill Carmichael, opened C&A Auto Parts in Rockmart and remained in business until their retirement in 2009.

He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart. He had a great love for his family and friends and enjoyed working on old cars, tractors, and around their home.

Survivors included his wife Paula Curenton Atkins, to whom he was married Jan. 27, 1968; two daughters, Stacey Atkins Lovvorn and her husband Ben and Kelley Atkins Pope and her husband Rodney all of Rockmart; two granddaugh­ters, Eisley Pope and Alexa Pope; two sisters, Linda Lee of Cedartown and Alice and Jim Crayton of Zebulon; one brother, Larry and Myrtice Atkins of Piedmont, Ala.; sister-in-law, Laura Curenton Snow and Darrell of Cedartown; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Rockmart with the Rev. Jason Odom officiatin­g. Interment services followed in the family lot of Polk Memory Gardens.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearer­s: Ronald Lovell, Renae Wright, Taylor Hughes, Josh Crayton, Matthew Snow and Michael Lee.

Honorary pallbearer­s were: Glenn Campbell, Ronnie Campbell and Deacons of First Baptist Church of Rockmart.
