CrossView ministry is providing low cost food

- By Sean Williams SJ Correspondent

CrossView’s clothing ministry and food pantry remain solid options for those in need of affordable clothing and cheap food, and those interested in stocking up can visit the church at Rockmart’s 510 N. Piedmont Ave on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. through 1 p.m. and 3:30 through 6 p.m. Saturday hours are 11 a.m. through 1 p.m.

“The clothing ministry offers gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories for affordable prices,” CrossView Office Manager Regina Moroy said. “The food pantry offers families the opportunity to shop for $10 to receive 2 paper grocery bags to fill with household groceries and items. For those who can’t afford $10, we offer one free bag per month.”

Those who pay won’t have any limit to how much they can buy, but those receiving free goods must wait at least one month in between shopping sessions. Furthermore, a picture ID and an information form is required for those receiving free bags, and free item receivers can not get free bags from other people. Money earned from the ministry and pantry is used to help purchase quality food for the customers.

“Our clothing is clean, without holes, and well organized by gender and size,” Moroy said. “Our food is purchased based on store sales, and our goal is for families to receive enough to fix three meals. We offer your pantry staple items such as canned goods, pasta, soup, toilet paper, and paper towels. Sometimes we offer meats but that is as they are donated.”

The church also takes donations and those with some non-perishable food items or unwanted clothing may consider offering it to the pantry, but there are naturally donation restrictions. Those interested need only visit their church with their items.

“We love donations,” Moroy said. “Food items need to be in date or nonperishable items. We also can use personal hygiene items, diaper or wipes. Any clothing and accessories would be appreciated. Donations go in a processing room where our volunteers decide if it should be free or sold for a low price.”

Those interested in helping out can call Moroy at 770-684-4070 and inquire about ways to take part in the program as a volunteer as well.
