Rockmart’s own Isaac Streetman is hoping to make a big splash as one of several area contestants taking part in the relaunch of “American Idol.”

On Sunday, Streetman was one of several contestants who were featured in auditions for the show now airing on ABC after it ended a run on Fox that lasted through 15 seasons and introduced the world to amazing talents.

After all, it is a show that launched the careers of superstars Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Katharine McPhee, Jordin Sparks, Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry among many others.

Streetman hopes that magic will return when the revamped series re- turns to small screens on ABC that it will afford him the opportunity to show off his talents to the nation.

“I saw American Idol as a good opportunity to do that,” he said. “So I took it.”

He joined hundreds of others to get in line in Atlanta and waited for several hours for his shot to meet the judges and showcase his musical talents.

“Going into the audition was a little nerve wracking, but at the same time I was excited,” he said. “Once I walked in though, I was able to calm my nerves and I channeled my musical talents.”

He said he connected with judge Luke Bryan on a “Georgia boy level” and that Katy Perry loved his beard so much she needed to feel it.

“Lionel Ritchie was sweet and straight to the point,” he said. “He en- joyed what I sang to them as well.”

Streetman can’t say yet what the next steps will be for him on the show, but he knows one thing for sure: his focus will be on making the most of getting into the music business.

The 17-year-old graduated from Rockmart High School two years early in order to focus “all my time on music, and further it.”

He did have one message to share with the community in his journey with American Idol so far: thank you, Rockmart.

“Everyone has been really supportive of me in my community, and online on social media as well,” he said. “I can’t say enough how much that means to me.”
