Cedartown fans have a reason to start watching NCAA Division I softball this season.

At least Ole Miss Lady Rebels softball.

Local star Ava Tillmann is back in the pitching circle for the season, getting her first chance to throw against the Boston College Lady Eagles during an outing early last week.

The Ole Miss freshman retired the order in the seventh, three up and down with a strikeout during the single inning she was put to work. She didn’t have an at-bat during the Lady Rebel’s rotation in the bottom of the seventh.

Ti l l mann made a second appearance last week on t he road at Texas A&M, coming in for another inning of work.

She gave up a hit but secured two strikeouts against the Lady Aggies in a 8-6 SEC loss, and then again in 2/3 an inning of work in a second game against Texas A&M.

In that outing, she gave up two hits, a run, and an error against four batters.

Check back next week to keep track of Tillmann’s progress in her first season as a Lady Rebel in coming editions of the Standard Journal.
