Blalock scores personal best in shot put

- From staff reports

Earlier in the month on May 11 and 12, Tyler Blalock of Kennesaw State University and formerly of Cedartown High School competed in the ASUN Outdoor Track and Field Conference in Jacksonville, Fla.

He competed in three events: shot put, discus, and the hammer. Blalock placed seventh in the finals in Hammer. He fouled out in discus and did not place.

However, in shot put he brought in the 1st place Gold Medal in his last throw with 15.84 meters, where he scored a personal best for him in the recorded college competition at this time.

His streak still reigns as four years in a row for first place in shot put—three years as a Georgia State Champion for High School and now one year as a Conference winner as a freshmen at KSU.

In a previous article in August 2017 Coach Andy Eggerth, director of track and field of KSU, said “Our men’s throwers have dominated the ASUN for some time now. I expect that Tyler will not only be a conference champion as a freshman but will continue our throws representation at the NCAA Championship.”

This was a heavily complimented early prediction for Blalock, and he followed through with great expected success.

Blalock will return home for the summer and continue to train with Mike Worthington, his high school coach.

In the fall he will return to Kennesaw State University where he will begin his sophomore year on the Track and Field team and is looking forward to doing greater things.
