Longtime Superior Court Clerk set to retire in January,

- Staff reports

For nearly two decades, a fixture at the Polk County Courthouse was Superior Court Clerk Sheila Wells.

Now the long-serving Wells is finally to a point where she’s ready to enjoy her time in retirement, and will give up her position in the forthcoming new year.

She said in an announcement last week that her final day would be coming up on January 16, 2019.

“Having worked in the Clerk’s office for the past 35 years and the last 18 as your Superior Court Clerk, it has truly been an honor to serve the Citizens of Polk County, and a experience I will never forget,” Wells said in her announcement. “I have made many good friends during my tenure as clerk and I will miss you all.”

Wells said that she hopes to be able to enjoy her retirement and plans to appoint Stacie Baines, currently the Chief Deputy for the Clerk of the Superior Court, to take over once she finishes out a full two of her four years in the position.

“It is time for someone younger and smarter, with more energy to take on all of the changes that the future holds for the clerks office,” Wells said in her statement.

Baines, who has held the job of Chief Deputy for the clerk’s office since 2011, has 22 years of experience in the clerk’s office.

“It is my opinion that Stacie (Baines) has the experience and knowledge to be a great Superior Court Clerk for the citizens of Polk County,” Wells said. “So Please join me in supporting Stacie as you have supported me in the past.”
