Georgia Tech stuns Miami, wins 28-21

- By Tim Reynolds

Another winner from Rockmart was announced for this past week’s Polk Pigskin Picks contest, though he wasn’t available to come collect his prize and take a photograph as others have in week’s past.

Clark did come claim his prize, but he was unable to stop by but for a moment at the Standard Journal offices last week after getting the most points for the Week 8 picks contest.

He got to take home shampoo provided by Gary Martin of Martin’s Styling Center, a gift card from Chick-fil-A of Rockmart, $5 gift card from Chick-N-Scratch Bakery, a lavender scented travel pillow from Silver Comet Furniture, a travel cup from Stacie Baines, a $50 gift card from Mary Miller State Farm Insurance, 1 free night for 1 pet in luxury pet hotel from Precious Paws, 25% off Custom Framing from Kiela’s Photo Lab, $10 gift card from Kroger and an umbrella from the Polk County Standard Journal.

Make sure to check back in for the Week 9 winner online at Polkstandardjournal.com early in the week to find out who won additional great prizes, and check go to Polkpigskinpicks.com to take part and have a chance at winning the gift basket available this week to the lucky winner.

Thanks to all who have participated so far past the midway point in the season, and good luck to those in the weeks to come.

A fake punt for a touchdown. A fumble recovery in the end zone for another score. A blocked field goal in the final seconds of regulation to stay in the game. Georgia Tech’s rebuilding season got plenty of material for the highlight reel on Saturday.

And Miami’s season took a turn in a very bad direction.

Antwan Owens blocked a Miami chip-shot field goal in the final seconds of regulation, Jordan Mason ran for 141 yards and scored on a 1-yard rush on the first possession of overtime and Georgia Tech knocked off the Hurricanes 28-21 on Saturday to snap a four-game slide.

“Unbelievable resolve from our guys,” Georgia Tech coach Geoff Collins said.
