More honors for star pitcher

Floyd named All-American in Perfect Game national rankings

Senior pitcher Ty Floyd was starting to hit his stride on the mound when amid the ongoing 2020 baseball season. He threw a 3-0 shutout against rival Cedartown, and despite this forced break remains one of the top prospects around.

One accolade that Floyd can also enjoy this season: national recognitio­n of his talents.

Though Rawlings Perfect Game All-American Pre-Season list wasn’t announced unitl March 25, the organizati­on named him among the top players in the country over the past few days.

“With more than 450,000 high school baseball players in the nation, the Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason All-American players represent the very best in their class,” said Mike Thompson, chief marketing officer for St. Louisbased Rawlings said in the release announcing the list. “Rawlings and Perfect Game are synonymous with the game of baseball, and the preseason awards allow us to recognize and reward these elite athletes for their hard work and contributi­on to the game.”

Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason All-American honorees are the top 150 players from the All-Region pool. Each recipient is named on one of three, 50-man roster national teams.

“To receive the Rawlings-Perfect

Game Preseason All-American or All-Region Award is a tremendous achievemen­t for these high school student-athletes,” said Jerry Ford, president of Cedar Rapids, IA-based Perfect Game. “We are proud to recognize their talent as they prepare for their careers playing collegiate or profession­al baseball.”

Floyd, who already committed to Louisiana State University’s baseball program when he finishes his high school career, has in the past months attracted a fair amount of Major League Baseball scouts to Jackets baseball games.

Before the season was shut down, several scouts from major league teams were on hand to watch him pitch against Cedartown at home.
