An Atlanta-area man died after emergency surgery at Atlanta Medical Center following a shooting on May 22 that the lone suspect in the case confessed to after flagging down a deputy for help.

Rockmart Police Chief Randy Turner reported that Quenten Eutsey, 30, died after doctors tried to save his life at Atlanta Medical Center last Friday. Polk County Coroner Tony Brazier reported that after emergency surgery, and additional emergency treatment at 6:44 p.m.

Turner and Brazier both offered their condolences to both families involved in the shooting following the incident late last week on East Elm Street.

Police arrested and later charged

Marshall Crews, 64, of 505 E. Elm St., Rockmart with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes.

Turner reported that a domestic dispute between Crews and Eutsey sparked the shooting after Crews asked Eutsey to leave his home several times. Crews went outside and asked for a store clerk at DK’s Food Mart across the street from his residence to call 911 for help, then flagged down a Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy to aid Eutsey after shots were fired.

Police reported that Crews told officers he shot Eutsey twice before he left to find help.

Rockmart Fire and Rescue and Redmond EMS both rushed to the scene to provide medical treatment, and then he was airlifted to Atlanta from the Nathan Dean Sports Complex not long after the incident was first reported around 1 p.m.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called into aid at the crime scene and with the Rockmart Police’s investigation into the incident. Eutsey’s body was transported from the hospital to the GBI crime lab for forensic exams.

Crews remained in the Polk County Jail over the weekend without bail set on the charges.
