PETS of the WEEK
Polk County Animal Control wants to make sure that pets within the shelter have every opportunity of finding forever homes.
Officials have reduced the adoption fees for cats for the time being to help encourage adoptions. The fee for cat adoptions is now $10. The adoption fee for dogs remains $40.
First is ID No. 46385687. Volunteers have named him Smarty. He is a juvenile Bombay Domestic Short Hair. He is 6 months to a year old. He is solid black and his eyes are amber in color. He is very affectionate and enjoys attention. He is a curious, calm and reserved kitty. He would be a loving companion.
Second is ID No. 46334303 and volunteers have named him Boppy. He is a large Bulldog mix weighing about 70 pounds. He is a young adult, approximately 1 year old. He is mostly white with brown freckles. He is super friendly. Boppy is always smiling and his tail is constantly in motion. He was running with another dog before he was picked up as a stray, but since coming to the shelter he seems to be a bit anxious and defensive around other dogs. This may be caused by the environment of the shelter but needs to be taken into consideration if interested in adopting. Boppy walks well on a leash but pulls a bit. He’s a handsome dog!
Animal Control is open on a by-appointment only basis at this time, but is taking some walk-ins on a limited basis to keep the number of people in the facility down to physical distancing guidelines.

The local Pet Food Pantry is open on Fridays from 5-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to noon for those in need. The pantry is located at 608 Adamson Road in Cedartown.
