-

Paula Jean Montague nee Davis, 75, of St. Simons Island, GA, passed away early in the morning on March 5, 2023, after a series of complicated illnesses.

She was born in Rome, GA, to parents Marion “Jean” Davis and Douglas Hardin Davis on February 11, 1948. While she considered Rockmart, GA, fondly as her hometown, she, her parents, and her two younger brothers Gary and Tim (named Timmy on his birth certificate by Paula) Davis moved extensively while her father performed military service in three wars. She met her future husband, Edward Walter Montague, when he served under her father at Tinker Air force Base in Oklahoma City, OK. They settled in Norman, OK, where she earned a BS in Zoology and an MS in Business from the University of Oklahoma, and she continued with her career serving as the Coordinator of Materials Control for the University of Oklahoma Department of Zoology until her retirement.

Paula and Edward raised two children, Kirsten Paula and Christopher Edward Montague, on a small property outside of town with lots of animals, books, and opportunities for travel within the United States. Paula also became extensively involved in Girl Scouts, remaining involved until her death. She had several troops, trained adults locally and on a national level, and took many girls on international trips, as well as introducing numerous local opportunities for girls and adults that may not otherwise been available. Before and especially after retirement, Paula also became an avid quilter and was involved in multiple guilds, classes, and retreats. She made dozens of quilts in her lifetime, including many individualized ones for some of her long-time girl scouts and loved ones.

She is survived by her children Kirsten and Christopher with wife Gabriela Davila; granddaughter Danika Alexandra Montague; brother Tim and wife Janet Hall, and beloved cats Joey and Rascal. Paula is also mourned by numerous friends and extended family across the United States and in multiple countries. She will be missed.

A Celebration of Life reception will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm. A graveside memorial service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rockmart, GA, date to be announced.
