Exchange Club helps bring new playground closer to reality
The Exchange Club of Cedartown recently presented the city with a $5,000 sponsorship to go toward its Play at Peek campaign and the completion of a new playground at the city-owned Peek Park.
The estimated $800,000 project will be built on the site of the current playground, which was built nearly 25 years ago through the efforts of several community members and area businesses.
The new playground is set to be built during a five-day community build that will start March 20. Team captains are already getting volunteers to help with the construction, which will be supervised by representatives from the playground company that makes the equipment.
Volunteers are needed to help in every part of the project, whether it is building equipment, organizing food and beverages, public relations or childcare for those helping during the build out.
Visit PlayatPeek.org to sign up to volunteer and find out more about the project.
Features of the new play area will include a dual racing zip line, ADA accessible merry-go-round, rubberized surfacing throughout the playground, playhouses that resemble downtown Cedartown architecture, a replica of the Big Spring bridge, crawl tunnel, a picnic area and more.
The Exchange Club's mission is to support youth and child abuse prevention. It is the main organizer of the Polk County Fair, which is the club's primary fundraiser.
