Southern Rhode Island Volunteers (SRIV) is looking for volunteers interested in helping with its Independent Aging Program. This program is a volunteer service that provides resources to help seniors stay independent in the Washington County area. SRIV is seeking drivers who are willing to transport seniors to medical appointments including physician, dental, and therapy appointments. Food insecurity and nutrition is very important, to help with this issue the group is looking for drivers willing to deliver groceries from local grocery stores/pantries and or becoming a personal shopper for home bound seniors. There are many seniors in need of someone to talk to, so the group is asking for volunteers who are interested in becoming a phone companion or willing to do weekly visits for an hour with these seniors. Lastly, SRIV’s new Rolling Library program is a once a month commitment to pick up library books/materials and deliver them to the seniors in the West Greenwich, Exeter and North Kingstown areas. Community service students are offered opportunities to help make up their hours. This would consist of winter cleanup, helping in the office, grocery deliveries, etc. South Kingstown Nursing & Rehab is also seeking volunteers who are interested in visiting with the seniors and being a companion to them whether it’s helping them write a letter or paint their nails, etc. Yellow Horse is an equine therapy riding program that teaches horsemanship in each program. If you are interested in any of these opportunities call 401-552-7661 or register online at www. southernrivol. org/ register.
