Dear Bonnie: I am going to a medium, and I wonder what questions I should ask, or do I tell her anything at all? I went to a public gallery and heard the medium saying to the audience, “Do not feed the medium, but do not starve the medium either.” Can you explain this? — Chloe

Dear Chloe: Each medium works in their own different way. Some mediums like to hear your voice, some like to know who you would like to make a connection with, and others say to their clients, “Do not tell me anything.”

A gallery reading or group reading, as you attended, is meant for an audience to be present and for the medium to go direct, meaning they pick who they are going to work with in the audience, or indirect, which is when the mediums allow the spirit world to send the communicator to her or him from the spirit world. The communicator is the spirit of loved ones wishing to communicate.

In this case, the medium would see, hear or feel the spirit world coming close, making their presence known to the medium. And the medium would start to give evidence of who is coming through from the spirit world. The medium might sense a father, mother, friend, etc., and go from there, doing their best to bring the spirit in heaven back to life as the medium brings forth more and more information about who they are communicating with, with the hope of finding the recipient of the message.

More information about this person is given to the audience, so the person in the audience knows, without a doubt, it is their loved one coming through.

In this case, the medium might say to the audience, “Raise your hand if this sounds like your loved one coming through.” There might be just one person or many. Then, the medium would give more evidence until the spirit would be connected to the correct person in the audience. After that, the medium would say to the recipient, “May I work with you?,” meaning “May I continue to blend and bring forth more evidence of this person’s life along with a personal message for the person receiving the communication?”

They may ask you if this communication is making sense to you. If the answer is yes, they will continue with the message or if something the medium said was not making sense to you, I know I always say, “Let me clarify that for you.” At that time, I would ask the spirit world to give me something else in a different way that would bring back that memory or thought to you.

A medium might ask a question or two to see if they are on the right track and that you are understanding the information being brought through by the spirit communicator. I always say that I might misinterpret information coming through, but the spirit world always knows what they are trying to say. It is not a perfect science; it is a process.

Visiting a medium for a reading, either in person or on Zoom or Facetime these days, can be a great way to have a private reading. When you are the only person sitting in front of the medium, the spirit world knows who you are trying to communicate. I like to ask my clients if there is anyone they would like to connect with, especially if it is a shorter reading. I do this because saying or writing down a person’s first name is like a calling card to heaven.

I don’t need to do this; it’s just something I like to do to ensure I am calling to heaven for the person you are missing. Besides that, I and other mediums will start with a description or personality of the person who wishes to communicate with you.

A person in the spirit world comes through the way you would recognize them. Your grandmother might not come through as a young lady unless you are always looking at a picture of her when she was 18. She would come through showing me her older self that you could relate to.

Most mediums would make sure you understood the information being brought to them. There is no reason to ask questions except “Is this making sense to you?,” which is so that we know we are getting the information in a way you understand.

To answer your question, all mediums work differently. Go to a medium who fits your personality, who has an excellent reputation and you trust. Do not, however, go into a reading with distrust or skepticism, where you want to test the medium or the spirit world, because that only blocks the communication. We are all energy, and the energy between the sitter and the medium is vital for the communication to flow with ease.

Remember, the medium is there to try to help you connect with someone you are missing in heaven. Readings can bring closure, peace and the knowledge that life goes on and that your loved ones are still very much a part of your life. Go in with an open heart and mind to have the best experience.
