Report: Phoenix’s baby is named for late brother River
Joaquin Phoenix and fiancee Rooney Mara reportedly have welcomed their first child — a boy named after the actor’s late brother, River Phoenix.
However, the private actors weren’t the ones to reveal the news. It was Russian filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky who spilled the beans this weekend while promoting his film “Gunda” at the Zurich Film Festival.
Reps for Phoenix and Mara did not immediately respond to requests for confirmation.
Kossakovsky was asked how he got “Joker” star Phoenix to board his animal-rights documentary (Hint: It had a lot to do with Phoenix’s 2020 Oscars acceptance speech), and then he shared the news.
“He just got a baby, by the way,” Kossakovsky said Sunday while speaking onstage at the festival. “A beautiful son called River.”
River is the late musician and “Stand by Me” actor who died in 1993 after a drug overdose that included lethal levels of cocaine and morphine. The rising star was 23.

J Balvin, Bad Bunny top Latin Grammy nods
At last year’s Latin Grammy Awards, popular reggaeton and Latin trap musicians such as J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Ozuna were dismissed in the show’s top categories. This year, they dominate.
Balvin scored a whopping 13 nominations for the 2020 Latin Grammys, including two nominations for album of the year and two for record of the year. The Latin Academy announced Tuesday that Bad Bunny and Ozuna are behind Balvin with nine and eight nominations, respectively.
Balvin has a chance to win his first album-of-theyear prize — a category with 10 contenders — thanks to his fifth solo album “Colores” and “Oasis,” his collaborative project with Bad Bunny.
Other nominees include Bad Bunny’s sophomore release “YHLQMDLG” as well as albums from Ricky Martin, Carlos Vives, Jesse & Joy, Kany García, Natalia Lafourcade, Camilo and Fito Paez.
