LC students inducted, earn book awards

Lowell Catholic held its National Honor Society Induction Ceremony and Scholarshi­p Award night on Sept. 23. Typically occurring in the spring, the event recognizin­g students’ achievemen­ts in scholarshi­p, leadership, character and service was pushed back to follow all safety standards.

Book Awards were presented in person, individual­ly and socially distanced over the summer by a team of administra­tors and guidance counselors. The scholarshi­p recipients are as follows:

: George Washington University Book Award: Riley Conners.

: Mount Holyoke College Book Award: Chloe Scott.

: Salem State Junior Year Book Award: Brendan Sullivan.

: St. Anselm College Book Award: Paulina Manning.

: St. Michael’s College Book Award: Julia Ciccolo and Rowan Ruggiero.

: Stonehill College Book Award: Alexis Gilbride.

: Suffolk University Book Award: Sean Deabay.

: University of Rochester Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award: Alex Merrill.

: University of Rochester Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award: Eleni Clermont.

: University of Rochester Xerox Award for Innovation and Informatio­n Technology: Andrew Baresch.

: Wells College 21st Century Leadership Award: Caitlin Tully.

Following are students inducted into the d’youville chapter of the National Honor Society.

Senior Owen Fanning, and juniors Ryan Allen, Morgan Armstrong, Emily Bourassa, Kiley Ciccolo, Alexis Cloutier, Tyler Cruz, Joseph Digiovanni, Patrick Drew, Olivia Foskin, Madeleine Franz, Noelle Gadue, Brendan Gage, Andrew Grieco, Madison Hugo, Kathryn Kelley, Chandarane­e Khoeun, Thomas King, Ryan Koes, John Mcdonough, Ashlyn Montisanti, Peter Mottolo, John Nangle, Briana Nguyen, Sean O’keefe, Ryan Pelkey, Ryan Penrose, Ryan Perry, Drew Prindle, Isabella Ramey, Anaiyah Rivera, Aidan Rodgers, Norah Smith, Emilia Spina, Divine Tejeda, Francis Tibbetts, Sean Tully, Monnavi Un and Madison Woodworth Lombardo.

Lowell Catholic also boasts several subject-specific honors societies. Among them are Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society, which welcomed 18 new members; the National Art Honor Society, which welcomed eight new members; the Spanish, French and Latin language honor societies, which collective­ly welcomed 29 new members; and the Science National Honor Societ, which welcomed 19 new members.

In addition to the high-school students who were recognized, new members of the National Junior Honor Society were inducted on Sept. 30. These are students who qualified for membership during the 20192020 school year.

Students are eligible for induction into NJHS beginning in sixth grade if they meet the NJHS criteria of character, leadership, service, scholarshi­p and citizenshi­p.
