The 2020 theatrical release calendar is getting even slimmer in the wake of the announcement that Regal cinemas are temporarily closing, although AMC, North America’s largest theater chain, says it will remain open.

Warner Bros. said late Monday that its sci-fi pic “Dune” will now open in October 2021, instead of this December. The studio also pushed back “The Batman” to March 2022 and moved up its “Matrix” sequel to December 2021.

AMC Entertainment reiterated its commitment to stay open and cited a slew of upcoming new releases that it will be playing, including this weekend’s new films “The War With Grandpa,” with Robert De Niro, and “Yellow Rose.” About 80% of its U.S. locations are currently open.

With the recent exit of the next James Bond film, that leaves a mere handful of big films set to still open in 2020: Pixar’s “Soul,” on Nov. 20, Universal’s “The Croods: A New Age,” on Nov. 25, Disney’s “Death on the Nile,” on Dec. 18 and Warner Bros.’ “Wonder Woman 1984,” at Christmas.

Last step for ‘Stairway’ suit

The long road of a copyright suit over Led Zeppelin’s 1971 megahit “Stairway to Heaven” came to an end Monday, when the Supreme Court announced that it had declined to hear the case.

The high court’s decision means that a ruling for Led Zeppelin in March by the 9th U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals will stand. That ruling affirmed Led Zeppelin’s victory at a trial in 2016 over a challenge led by a trustee representing “Taurus,” a 1968 song by the psychedelic band Spirit.

Machine Gun Kelly No. 1 with a bullet

Almost a decade ago, Machine Gun Kelly emerged from Cleveland with an aggressive rap style and a rock ’n’ roll attitude. Now, with his first No. 1 album produced in part by Travis Barker of Blink-182 — and a socialmedia feed filled with Oasis and Paramore covers — he has seemingly completed his transition into the realm of Day- Glo poppunk.

“Tickets to My Downfall,” Machine Gun Kelly’s fifth studio album, opened at No. 1 on Billboard’s chart with the equivalent of 126,000 sales in the United States, leading a slew of high-charting new releases. T

‘GLOW’ fades as Netfliix cancels show

Those physically intimate Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling will not be heading back into the ring in Season 4 after all. Netflix abruptly canceled its Emmy-nominated comedy “GLOW” on Monday, dropkicking the series after Season 3 and earlier than expected, the Los Angeles Times has confirmed. The series had previously been renewed for a fourth season, which had already gone into production before the COVID-19 pandemic halted its progress.
