Billerica sweeps Lowell

The Billerica High girls volleyball team defeated Lowell in straight sets on Saturday, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-12.

Mia Ly played well for Lowell with 4 kills, while Iva Keo had 15 digs and Josalyn Sao chipped in 2 aces.

The teams will meet again on Wednesday.

The Middies fell by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-14.

Loran Zolkas had 5 kills and 5 blocks, and Nalani Keang had 5 kills and 10 digs for Dracut. Kat Morse chipped in 5 aces.

Set scores were 25-23, 27-25, 22-25 and 25-23 in a tightly-contested MVC match.

Libero Carinna Barron starred for Tewksbury, as did setter Kiley Kennedy.

Central (2- 0) swept by scores of 25-11, 25-22 and 25-23.

Lily Golden had 4 kills and 8 service points for the Raiders. Kayleigh Holland dished out 13 assists.

Football

The Pythons improved to a perfect 4- 0 as quarterbac­k Jake Travis had 3 touchdown runs and passed for 85 yards on Friday night.

Jake Herrling returned a kickoff 80 yards for a TD and rushed for 67 yards. Ethan Demmons also had a score on the ground.

It was 20-13 in the third quarter before Pelham pulled away and got some breathing room.

Boys cross country

Lowell improved to 3-0 with a convincing at Shedd Park.

2.75-mile course. Lowell’s depth played a pivotal role in the meet, as it placed 7 of the top 9 runners. Nathan Petterson (2nd, 15:31), Ryan Courtney (4th, 15:46), Matt Morneau (5th, 15:52) and Frank Kelly (6th, 16:09) were the other scorers for the Red Raiders, who have now won 101 consecutiv­e MVC contests.

Billerica got a strong effort from Ryan Leslie (3rd, 15:41).

Nashoba Tech’s Mason St. Pierre was the overall winner at this Friday meet, finishing in a time of 19:50.

Nashoba Tech’s Seth Rigby, Jonathan Allen, Aidan Coss and Max Stroud took the next 4 spots.

At Westford’s 2.9-mile course, WA’S Connor Fitzgerald was the overall winner in a time of 15:43. Justin Ottesen took 2nd in a time of 15:50 and AJ Chiappetta was 4th in a time of 16:01.

Girls cross country

Lowell improved to 3-0 on the season, as Annie Gilman and Sarah Ames finished 1st and 2nd, respective­ly.

Kalei Sam was 4th to chip in for the Red Raiders. Anna Woodlock was 6th, and Erin Mccabe was 7 th.

Academy of Notre Dame’s Kendell Fromont was the overall winner in a time of 24:31 on Friday.

NDA’S Kate Conrad, Mya Shanahan and Natalie Foy captured the next 3 spots.

Nashoba Tech’s Julia Chamberlai­n was 5th.

Field hockey

Senior Grace Gervais had 4 goals and an assist to help Central (1-3) get its 1st win.

Sydney Moda had a goal and 2 assists, and Brooke Jankowski netted a pair of goals for the Raiders.

Boys soccer

Joe Haggerty scored the game’s only goal, assisted by Cameron Sjostedt, and Billerica edged Lowell in an MVC battle.

Marco Cugno recorded the shutout in net for the Indians.

For Lowell, Jonathon DiGiovanni, Richard Pereira and Steven Monsalve played well at midfield. Julian Jimenez, Matthew Griffith, Nathan Youngquest and Jonnathan Lopes starred on defense.

Maddie Curran scored 4 goals to power the Pythons on Friday.

Maddie Cote added 2 goals, while Abby Gates and Ashlyn Walsh each had a goal and an assist.
