Lombardo, English face off for Billerica
Election Day is nearly here and as voters in Billerica prepare to head to the polls (or their nearest ballot dropbox), the Sun presents this brief explanatory guide on the race between state Rep. Marc Lombardo and challenger Teresa English, detailing their backgrounds, top priorities and differing stances.
Lombardo, the incumbent Republican, is a native of Billerica and was first elected to represent the town on Beacon Hill in 2010. Before that, he served on the
Board of Selectmen and was a representative at Town Meeting.
Heading into a potential sixth term, Lombardo said his top priorities are to get unemployed residents back to work, to defend and stand up for local police and to prevent politicians on Beacon Hill from raising taxes.
“I will continue to fight for you, hold the line on taxes, I’ll support our heroes in blue and I’ll always support law and order. I will work to revive the Massachusetts economy and get you and your family back to work,” Lombard said during a debate with English on Oct. 21.
English, a history teacher at
Lawrence High School and a United States Air Force veteran, is the third Democrat to challenge Lombardo for his seat since 2010. Originally from Georgia, she moved to Billerica in 2017 and has since worked with the Billerica Food Pantry and Beautify Billerica, and was elected to Town Meeting in 2019.
The top prerogative for English at the moment is to fight for
Teresa English, of Billerica, is challening state Rep. Marc Lombardo, left.
