Billerica » Selectman Andrew Deslaurier formally announced that he will be running for reelection on Friday, setting up a competitive race against School Committee Vice Chair Darlene Torre for the seat.

“I’m proud of the work I have accomplished, and I look forward to continuing to represent your interests and values for three more years in a manner that brings all residents together,” Deslaurier said in a statement.

Deslaurier was first elected in 2009 after he ousted five-term selectman Jim O’donnell. If reelected, it would mark his fifth term on the Billerica Board of Selectmen.

In the statement he released announcing his candidacy, Deslaurier highlighted some of his achievements on the board over the past 12 years, including making investments in infrastructure without creating a burden for taxpayers, supporting both the Parker School and the high school, fixing dangerous intersections and starting the rehabilitation of the town center with Boston Road projects.

He also said he took pride in being approachable to residents and emphasized the importance of lifting residents up and leaving the credit aside.

“I have worked effectively every year with different members of the board to position the town for success and communicate that Billerica is open for business,” Deslaurier said. “But I also strive to uphold the confidence in fairness, honesty, and integrity that Billerica should expect of its elected officials.”
