Students create videos for those who follow

tyngsboro » Greater Lowell Technical High School recently announced the four winners of Skillsusa’s annual Community Outreach Challenge.

Participat­ing students were challenged to create a 1- to 3-minute video that would help potential incoming freshmen understand what it’s like to attend Greater Lowell Tech and to promote students’ chosen shop.

Entries were judged by the Greater Lowell Skillsusa Alumni Associatio­n.

First place went to Jazlyn Day of Lowell, a senior in Cosmetolog­y, displayed techniques students will learn, and with her mannequin, Debra, demonstrat­ed different hairstyles. Jazlyn will receive a $50 gift card to her choice of retailer.

Second place went to Abbey Gingras of Dracut, a junior in Programmin­g and Web Design, who used her programmin­g and design skills to explain potential career paths in her field. She will receive a $30 gift card to her choice of retailer.

Third place went to freshmen Olivia Chartier and Monique Hogan, both of Tyngsboro, who describe their experience­s as incoming students and how Greater Lowell Tech opens a wide array of career possibilit­ies. They will share a $20 gift card to their choice of retailer.

Fourth place went t o Phearum Nuth of Lowell, a sophomore in Electronic­s, who explained the goals of his shop and how theory is put into hands-on practice. He will receive a $10 gift card to his choice of retailer.

“I congratula­te these very talented students,” Superinten­dent Jill Davis said. “Our students are our best ambassador­s, and they have done a great job sharing the Greater Lowell Tech experience with students who may want to attend in the fall.”
