Response to Peter Lucas
I must admit, Lowell Sun columnist Peter Lucas drew me in with his recent column headline, “If Biden wants to understand Neanderthals, just look in the mirror” (The Lowell Sun, March 16, 2021). I was expecting some pithy, thought-provoking discussion of our newest president’s work in the two months since his inauguration, or at least some sharp remarks that pointed to policy decisions that move the country backward, not forward.
What we got instead was inflammatory, inaccurate falsehoods that Biden is as bad as the Taliban, who shut schools down and were responsible for the terror attacks of 9/11. Mr. Lucas describes Biden as the school-closing Taliban-in-chief — may I remind your columnist that Biden wants schools to reopen, including making that a prioritized goal for his first 100 days? I am also not sure how Mr. Lucas came up with the assertion that Biden has a history of picking on and mocking minority groups and is insensitive to the disabled. Perhaps Mr. Lucas’ blood pressure spiked too much over the Neanderthal comment that he suffered a transient ischemic attack and confused our current president with our former president, who was great at mocking the disabled.
I can sympathize with Mr. Lucas not liking Biden for calling Texas Gov. Abbott a Neanderthal, a lower form of primate that was replaced by Homo Sapiens in the evolutionary ladder — name calling isn’t nice. Perhaps he should have nominated Abbott for the Darwin Awards. You know, that wonderful Evolution in Action distinction, which is awarded to those who improve the human genome by accidentally removing themselves from the gene pool for acts of stupidity.
Sadly, the only true point I could agree with in Mr. Lucas’ article was his one sentence about the banning of some of
Dr. Seuss’ works. Unfortunately for Mr. Lucas, Biden has had nothing to do with the banning of those books, but if that plays to Mr. Lucas’ readers, why not use it? I would lastly like to challenge Mr. Lucas to stick to the truth, encourage readers to think, and perhaps find another paper to write for. “Hate has no
home here.”

Great opinion page 3/16
Wow, Mr. Lucas, great column again. Nuff said. Lydia King you are also spot on. If the socialists get their way on HR1, there will never be a fair election again. Also I’d be remiss if I didn’t say to Masood Ashraf, your daughters will be OK if Mary is to be their role model. It’s nice to see these intelligent opinions all on the same day.
