Police officers honored

Chelmsford » Fourteen Chelmsford police officers were honored for their service in a ceremony earlier this month. These officers received Meritoriou­s Awards for Outstandin­g Performanc­e of Duty for acts from 2019, as the planned 2020 ceremony was canceled because of COVID-19.

Those honored at the ceremony included Sgt. Phil Dube, Sgt. Steve Fredericks, Sgt. Steven Hawkins, Detective Sgt. Bill Carlo, Detective George Tyros, Detective Jeff Blodgett, Detective Brian Ubele, Officer Nick Ziminksy, Officer Derek Hill, Officer Christ Mauti, Officer Dave Leo, Officer Brian Richard, Officer Craig Mead and Officer Matthew Fernald.

“We are proud to honor these members for their incredible actions during these investigat­ions and emergency responses,” Chelmsford Police Chief James Spinney said in a statement. “They all showed exceptiona­l profession­alism and dedication while serving our community, and have proven to be invaluable assets to the department and the Town.”

Dube, Blodgett, Ubele, Ziminsky, Hill, Mauti and Leo received their awards for their work investigat­ing an attempted armed home invasion on Tyngsboro Road on May 19, 2019. During that incident, a male victim was held at gunpoint by a male suspect posing as a delivery man. Police later found the suspect hiding in nearby woods after he fled the scene. He was taken into custody without incident.
