Events slated for Chelmsford Art Society and Garrison House
chelmsford » The Chelmsford Art Society will feature an art demonstration at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 by award-winning artist Raksha Soni, who will create her acrylic painting called “Dawn” in front of a live audience at the Chelmsford Center for the Arts.
After 20 years as a software engineer, she turned to art as her true calling and created a gallery called “Brush and Paisley” in 2017 to showcase her work.

Additionally, the “Old Chelmsford” Garrison House will exhibit quilt tops made by Sally Palmer Field, a renowned quilter, on Nov. 14, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Field taught quilting and ran a fabric shop for quilters. She began the quilt shows that were held at the Garrison House for over 20 years.

Holiday craft fair to be held in Townsend
townsend » The Townsend Congregational Church will host its annual holiday fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 20.
The fair will be held in Fellowship Hall, adjacent to the church on the town common.
The event will include handcrafted items for sale, festive greens, books, lunch, raffle baskets, a quilt raffle and visits from Santa.
Lowell Community Charter Public School students offer welcoming messages to Afghan children
lowell » Elementary school children at Lowell Community Charter Public School (LCCPS) created more than 50 welcome messages for evacuated Afghan children resettling in Massachusetts. The LCCPS Welcome Project included families and the school’s new after-school program. The completed greetings were delivered to The International Institute of New England for distribution.
The project was originally presented to the school by Peggy Hassett, retired LCCPS school librarian. Hassett has been involved in the community effort to welcome as many as 150 families from Afghanistan to Massachusetts through a letter writing campaign.
