Tewksbury offers new renewable energy rates

tewksbury » The Tewksbury Community Choice Power Supply Program has a new supplier that will offer lower-cost renewable energy to residents.

The town has signed a 36-month contract with Constellation Energy starting in December, which will offer a rate 26% lower than National Grid’s winter residential basic service.

“Tewksbury residents will have a real impact on how much energy is produced in the region,” said Town Manager Richard Montuori. “We see the impact climate change is having on the world every day and taking positive steps to reduce that impact is imperative. Combining that with the ability to reduce residents’ electricity costs this winter is a win for the community.”

The town’s current contract, which ends in December, uses electricity from National Wind renewable energy certificates produced outside of New England. The new contract will add an additional 5% renewable energy certificates within Massachusetts, incentivizing local renewable energy projects and creating local job opportunities.

No action is required by individual consumers. The change will be noted on December bills and will be seen on January bills.
