GREATER LOWELL TECH BOYS NET CAC TITLE

The Greater Lowell Tech boys basketball team left Tyngsboro as a strong team. The Gryphons returned from Billerica on Wednesday night as Commonweal­th Athletic Conference champions.

Playing a strong Shawsheen Tech team, Greater Lowell prevailed 61-53 to improve to 11-4 overall and stay perfect (9-0) in the CAC.

The Gryphons have now posted consecutiv­e wins over Greater Lawrence, Whittier Tech and Shawsheen. Needing a win to qualify for the state tournament, Shawsheen has dropped back-to-back games to Lowell Catholic and Greater Lowell.

51 >> The Redmen collected the non-league win to improve to 7-10 overall. Tewksbury has played well since a slow start.

For North Middlesex, four of the five players who scored had big games. Jack Callahan and Brian Morse netted 15 points each to pace the Townsend school, while Mike Reardon Jr., netted 10 points and Cade Callahan added nine points.

Tewksbury only led 31-26 at halftime.

Wrestling

PELHAM 42, KEARSARGE 24 >> The Pythons received pins from Liz Donovan and Nathan Maslanek, both in 27 seconds, to roll to the win. Donovan was a winner at 113 pounds, while Maslanek captured his 132-pound match.

Scoring points via forfeit for Pelham were Lex Kiernan (106), Cassidy Harrington (120), Katelynn Zannoni (145), Billy Nicolls (170) and Russell Leonard (220).

The Redmen wrapped up their dual meet season with another victory to move to 194. Tewksbury dominated the lower weights, sprinting out to a 21-0 lead and never being challenged.

Nick Desisto pinned his opponent at 106, Angelo Desisto was a winner at 113, Ben Barrasso was victorious at 120, Jack Callahan earned a pin at 126 and Sean Callahan captured his 132-pound match by decision as Tewksbury was off and rolling.

Also winning by pins were

Jack Donovan at 138, Hunter Johnson at 145, Ryan Fleming at 152, Sean Hirtle at 170, Luke Shaw at 182 and Manny Mengata at 220.

24 >> In a non-league meeting, the Ghosts got the better of the Gryphons. Westford received pins from senior Connor Hoague at 113, sophomore Emri Tanir at 120 and senior Hari Verma at 126.

Also earning WA points were sophomore Tony Khvesiuk at 132, freshman Jhavian Rivera at 138, freshman Kaden Silton at 170, junior Shane Clark at 182, sophomore Owen Kenefic at 195 and junior Henry Babineau at 220.
