D/T’S Desmarais wins sectional wrestling title

Dracut/tyngsboro star Brock Desmarais pinned down his second Division 2 North sectional wrestling championsh­ip Saturday.

Desmarais bulldozed his way to the 152-pound title. He pinned four of his opponents in a total of 1 minute, 27 seconds to dominate his division.

The team also had three wrestlers finished in second — Amauri Hernandez, Carter Johnson and Nick Nicosia. Also moving onto next week’s Division 2 state championsh­ip event were Charlie Maragnis and Drew Richardson with fourth-place finishes.

GLT SIXTH >> Greater Lowell Tech tied for sixth place with Billerica at the Division 2 North sectionals. The 138-pound champion was Gabe Bischoff.

Placing third was Brayden Bourassa at 220, placing fourth was Aviren Chitpaseut­h at 195, and placing fifth were Garrett Ayotte at 145 and Ron Allard at heavyweigh­t. Greater Lowell had two sixth-place finishers — Anthony Baia at 120 and Jorge Lora at 170.

Boys track

Lunenburg won the District E Division 2 title at Fitchburg High (114.75), but Littleton was the runner-up with 77. Ayer Shirley placed third (42.5).

Littleton’s Prianka Sarathy was the 600 champion in a clocking of 1:46.76, while the Tigers’ 4×440 relay squad was victorious in 4:31.04.

Girls basketball

DRACUT 67, BILLERICA 55 >> The Middies held off Billerica to clinch its second straight MVC Division 2 championsh­ip, the first time Dracut has accomplish­ed that feat in 21 years.

Senior guard Ashlee Talbot was immense again with 32 points as she went went 12-for-12 from the free throw line. Senior forward Emma Felker chipped in 13 points for the Middies (12-5, 10-2 MVC 2).

Girls hockey

0 >> Sydney Foster registered a 22-save shutout to backbone the Raiders’ win. Scoring goals were Hannah Coleman, Sophia Powers and Lucy Irwin.

Boys hockey

Picking up assists were Ben Cardillo and Jack Michaud. For North Middlesex (8-9), goalie Aaron Scarelli was also terrific in making 22 saves.

LATIN 0 >> Senior capt. Ben O’keefe was a brick wall in Tewksbury’s net again during action at Murphy Rink in South Boston. He made 20 saves to post his seventh shutout. The Redmen held a 29-20 shots advantage.

Offensivel­y, Tewksbury received a two-goal, oneassist performanc­e from senior forward Ryan Flynn. Junior forward Tyler Barnes and senior forward Brady Chapman also scored goals to help keep Tewksbury (15-1-1) hot. Conor Cremin dished out two assists. Earning an assist each were Matthew Cooke, Anthony Difranco and Cooper Robillard. Boston Latin fell to 9-5-2. 1 >> The Wildcats pulled out a tough Middlesex League victory thanks in part to senior capt. Nathan Alberti, who tallied a goal and assist. Alberti has scored in nine straight games. Senior defenseman Owen White also sent a shot into Stoneham’s net. Both goals came in the third period after being down 1-0.

Picking up an assist each for WHS were sophomore forward Matthew O’brien and senior forward Brian Barry. Senior Justin Finnegan turned aside 29 shots in net. 4 >> Shrewsbury rallied for four goals in the third period to top the Ghosts during action at Northstar Ice Sports in Westboro.
