Lowell Catholic nets title, Isola wins 100th

It was a night to remember for the Lowell Catholic boys basketball team Monday.

The Crusaders edged Dual County League member Lincoln-sudbury, 77-69, to capture the Spartan Classic Small School championsh­ip. In addition, the victory was a milestone one for head coach Mike Isola, who earned his 100th career victory.

Lowell Catholic improved to 12-8.

WESTFORD 60 >> The Ghosts were defeated on the road in Mansfield as they had no answer for junior guard Tristan Rodriguez, who led Archbishop Williams with a team-high 21 points.

Girls hockey

a power-play tally in the second period. Sammy Ryan and MJ Petisce also crashed the net, giving the Red Raiders the 4-0 cushion by the second intermissi­on. Sarah Doherty, Bree Lawrence, Lyla Chapman and Petisce, also picked up assists in the win.

WESTON/WAYLAND 2 >> Lucy Irwin tallied a pair of goals to lead the Raiders to victory. Also scoring for Central were Kailin Sullivan and Gianna Demedeiros.

Boys hockey

1 >> Senior quad-captain Tommy Workman scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in the narrow victory.

Trailing 1-0, Dracut/ Tyngsboro sparked its second-period comeback. Colin Underwood cashed in, scoring the game-tying tally just 1:02 into the stanza, assisted by Workman and Nate Freelove. Workman added the go-ahead goal at 10:24 of the period, with Jared Mcdougall and Colby Forestell picking up the helpers.

Goalie Connor Cole held the fort the rest of the way, making 18 saves. 0>> The Cardinals were locked in a scoreless tie through two periods, but Concord dominated the third. The final goal came into an empty net on BG’S home ice at Skate 3 in Tyngsboro.

Girls basketball

LOWELL 50, HAVERHILL 37 >> Lacey Pare potted a teamhigh 15 points for Lowell during the Merrimack Valley Conference victory. Drea Defreitas added 13 points, while Fiona Haley chipped

in with nine points. 27 >> Aisling Harrington netted 15 points, while younger sister Ceilagh Harrington added 10, as the Lions closed out the regular season at 15-5. Bella Mirasolo and Charlotte Buckley both drained a pair of 3-pointers in the victory. 41 >> Kate Allen scored 20 points for the Tigers (15-4) in the quarterfin­als of the Central Mass Athletic Directors Tourney (CMADA).

Kaylin O’meara hit for 16 points, while Katherine Anjoorian added 12.

Jasmine Becotte led the way with 32 more points as Pelham (16-2) pulled out the victory.

Liv Todd tallied 12 points, helping the Pythons take a 40-14 lead at halftime. Sophia Joncas (six points), Molly Sauer, Abby Mcfarland, Morgan Berton, Grace Riley and Shea Hinton also played well in Pelham’s final regular-season game.

Vicki Lavargna scored a team-high 19 points for the Redmen, as they fell in the first round of the Foxboro Classic to an 18-1 Foxboro team. The visitors faced an uphill battle after trailing 28-16 at the half, with Lavargna netting eight points at intermissi­on. Tewksbury will face off with Braintree on Tuesday. 41 >> The Ghosts lost in the opening round of the Mansfield Roundball Classic. Mansfield controlled the game from the start, leading 21-14 after one and 3525 at half. WA rallied at the start of the third, opening with a 7-0 run, but the home team was able to pull away and cruise to the win.

Alanna Saunders lead WA with 12 points, while Ali Mammola chipped in six points and five steals for the Ghosts (6-13). Abby Wager scored 30 points for Mansfield.

AYER SHIRLEY 42, TAHANTO 40 >> The Panthers rallied to defeat Tahanto in overtime, edging a strong club (14-5). Maddie Davis led Ayer Shirley (16-3) with 13 points, while Emily Churchill also reached double figures with 10 points in the CMADA Class C quarterfin­al victory.
