Tyngsboro basketball teams advance

The Tyngsboro High girls basketball team barely broke a sweat Friday night in advancing in the state tournament.

The Tigers romped past Clinton, 59-21, in a Division 4 round of 32 game on their home floor.

Second-seeded Tyngsboro (165) led 13-2 after one quarter and then 39-4 at halftime after an explosive second quarter. Pacing the offense were Gianna Donato with 16 points and Carly Dimento with 14. Sam Puma and Amelia Johnson added seven points apiece. The Tigers play the winner of Northbridg­e and Uxbridge in the round of 16.

DRACUT 77, NOTRE DAME (H) 49 >> Senior Emma Felker drained six 3-pointers and netted a teamhigh 26 points to spark the Middies to an impressive Division 2 round of 32 win.

Dracut (17-6) only led 32-31 at halftime before pulling away. Senior Ashlee Talbot compiled 19 points and 10 assists. Senior Brodie Gannon had 14 points, all in the second half, and senior Amaya Alkassar contribute­d 10 points and 18 rebounds. Junior Lamees Alasaad held Notre Dame of Hingham star Ava Orlando to no points in the second half.

Dracut advances to the Sweet 16 and will host Nashoba Regional at Dracut.

LITTLETON 59, MAHAR 35 >> Victoria Mccoy collected 19 points to help the Tigers roll to an easy Division 4 round of 32 victory in Littleton.

Two other Littleton players scored in double figures — Kaylin O’meara produced 12 points, while Kate Allen finished with 10. No. 7 Littleton (16-5) will host Millbury in a round of 16 game at a date and time to be announced. No. 26 Mahar finishes at 12-10. AYER SHIRLEY 51, SOUTH SHORE VOKE 26 >> After a slow offensive start, the Panthers got rolling and easily got past No. 22 South Shore Voke in Ayer.

No. 11 Ayer Shirley (17-4) led only 6-5 after one quarter. The Panthers easily captured the Division 5 round of 32 meeting and advanced. Maddie Davis scored a game-high 21 points as Ayer Shirley outscored its visitors 16-5 in the second quarter.

Ava Murphy added eight points. The Ayer school will take on the Westport/st. John Paul II winner. South Shore Voke (17-6) tied a program record for most wins in a season.

FONTBONNE 79, GREATER LOWELL 45 >> The Gryphons ran into a tough Fontbonne squad during a Division 3 round of 32 game.

No. 23 Greater Lowell ends a fantastic season 17-4. Felicia Melendez led the way with 14 points and eight rebounds. Scoring eight points each were Mariah Lorenzo, Briannah Namale and Nellie Chan. Emily Sandelli chipped in five points.

Boys basketball

PELHAM 77, MANCHESTER WEST 57 >> Locked in a tight game in an electric atmosphere in Manchester, the visiting Pythons caught fire and easily pulled away during a NHIAA Division 2 quarterfin­al round game.

Fifth-seeded Pelham sent fourth-seeded Manchester West packing. Pelham ripped Kingswood Regional in a first-round game, 78-47. The Pythons will play the Laconia/merrimack Valley winner in a semifinal. CHARLESTOW­N 63, TEWKSBURY 52 >> Considered a huge underdog prior to the game, 28th-seeded Tewksbury played hard until the final buzzer against a talented team.

No. 5 Charlestow­n (19-4) looked like it was going to blow Tewksbury out of the gym when the hosts roared to a 38-19 halftime lead. However, Tewksbury played a great third quarter and only trailed 49-40 entering the fourth.

Seniors Romyn Lorick and Brian Carleton led the way with 11 points each, while Ryan Cuvier had nine points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Johnny Sullivan chipped in with five points, six rebounds and 3 steals.

The Redmen finished 11-11 after starting out 1-8, and that includes winning their first playoff game in eight years Monday against Amherst-pelham.

OLD ROCHESTER 68, GROTON-DUNSTABLE 43 >> Despite strong games from Zach Romich and Andrew Strenstrea­m, the 30th-seeded Crusaders were eliminated during a Division 3 round of 32 clash in Mattapoise­tt.

Romich netted a team-high points and Strenstrea­m added 15 points for G-D (9-12). No. 4 Old Rochester (19-3) marches on. LOWELL CATHOLIC 65, DOVER SHERBORN 55 >> The 27th-seeded Crusaders went on the road and upset sixth-seeded Dover Sherborn.

Dimitri Sime led LC (14-8) with 20 points, while Brady Lynde added 12 points. Dover-sherborn ends with a 16-5 record. TYNGSBORO 66, LYNN TECH 58 >> Bryce Goulet netted a team-high 22 points to fuel the Tigers to the Division 4 round of 32 win.

Also starring for Tyngsboro (14-7) were Trevor Drew with 19 points and Gavin Familia with 10 points. Anthony Nicosia added seven points, while Ryan Wall claimed seven points and provided a huge defensive spark off the bench.

Football

The 24th annual Super26 Banquet, honoring the best in high school football for 2022, will be held on Sunday, March 12 at 5 p.m. at the Burlington Marriott Hotel.

Sponsored by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston and the Massachuse­tts High School Football Coaches’ Associatio­n, the SUPER26 Banquet honors the top high school football players in the state.

No local player was selected to the exclusive team, but Shawsheen Tech Al Costabile will receive the Ohrenberge­r Award for being Coach of the Year. Costabile led the Rams to a state championsh­ip game appearance and a oneloss season. Costabile went over the 200-win plateau for his career during the season.
