DIY clover planter for teens

Ghana flag raising

LOWELL — In addition to the flags customaril­y flown at JFK Plaza, the city commemorat­es flags from many countries during the year. On Saturday, March 18, at 11 a.m., the public is invited to a flag-raising for the country of Ghana. Flute orchestra performanc­e

GROTON — Groton Hill Music Center presents the Flute Orchestra of Groton Hill, Sunday, March 19, at 3 p.m., in Meadow Hall, 122 Old Ayer Road. The afternoon program features works originally written for flute and orchestra, as well as pieces which were written for other instrument­s and reworked for flutes, such as Ravel’s “Minuet from Le Tombeau de Couperin,” Rimsky-korsakov’s “Procession of the Nobles,” Gaubert’s “Madrigal“and “Songs of the Ocean” by Hirose.

Two world premieres are also on the program: “The World Is Here (The Cormorant’s Dream)”, by composer Chris Florio, and Brandon J Nelson’s “An Harmonic Disquisiti­on Upon Various Types of Cheese.” Nicole O’toole and Jessica Volk will perform Cimarosa’s “Concerto for 2 Flutes and Orchestra,” and David Deifik will

be the soloist on Gaubert’s “Madrigal for Flute and Flute Ensemble.”

Wildlife program for seniors

LUNENBURG — Seniors are invited to attend “Wild Inside: Fishers, Beavers, and Bears,”

Friday, March 24, at 1 p.m., at the Eagle House Senior Center, 25 Memorial Drive. Attendees will learn about the physical and behavioral adaptation­s of the fisher, the North American beaver and the black bear during the free, hourlong discussion with a Nashua River

Watershed Associatio­n educator/naturalist.
