Alleged Tewksbury robber found to be dangerous
Dominic Myers Yancy to stay behind bars as case progresses in court
LOWELL >> Dominic Myers Yancy will remain behind bars for at least 120 days as his case involving the alleged robbery of Andy’s Convenience progresses in court.
Yancy, 20, of Lowell, appeared before Judge Stephen Geary in Lowell District Court on Thursday for a 58A dangerousness hearing. After listening to the evidence presented by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Geary determined Yancy poses a danger to the community and should be held without bail.
Yancy is charged with armed robbery while masked and assault with a dangerous weapon after he allegedly robbed Andy’s Convenience, located 420 Woburn St., shortly before 8:40 p.m. Nov. 19.
The Tewksbury Police said Yancy allegedly brandished what appeared to be a “Tec9” style firearm with an extended magazine during the robbery. Police later revealed the weapon was a replica gun. Surveillance footage from the store shows who police said is Yancy standing behind the store counter, pointing the supposed firearm at the employee making him empty items into the backpack.
Police reported that the convenience store suffered a monetary loss of $9,718.85, including $7,820 in cash, 77 disposable vapes worth $1,864.87, and two pocket knives valued at $33.98.
According to police, an investigation determined Yancy allegedly fled the convenience store on foot after the robbery, crossed the street into a wooded area, and then followed train tracks to 12 Commonwealth Ave. in Lowell, where he had been residing. The residence is situated approximately 900 feet from the convenience store.
Following what they described as an extensive investigation, including surveillance of Yancy and 12 Commonwealth Ave., police executed a search warrant at the residence with the assistance of the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT team. Yancy was taken into custody without incident.
When questioned about the robbery, police reports state that Yancy confessed.
“Dominic said he was desperate and did not have any money,” police said in the report.
Yancy is scheduled to return to Lowell District Court for a pretrial conference on Jan. 8. His attorney,
Frances Dallmeyer, was not immediately available for comment.
